  1. SSE Rugby Energy

  2. Why are we here? • We know that many of our clubs run hand to mouth, and are working their hardest just to break even. • Centrica recently stated that Gas prices will be 15% higher this winter than last winter. • 60% of UK electricity comes from Gas fired power stations and so Electricity prices are likely to rise as well. • This project has the potential to help hundreds of clubs - freeing up some of the money they spend on energy bills to spend on the things that really matter, like new equipment, coaches and facilities.

  3. RFU & SSE • SSE is a National Community Partner and Official Energy Partner of the RFU • SSE is the title partner National and Divisional Leagues as well as supporting our Community Rugby Coaches • During the first year of the partnership, SSE worked closely with clubs to offer them rewards such as training sessions with Tom Croft, kit and equipment, coaching courses and a £10,000 energy credit which was won by Liverpool St Helens   • The RFU and SSE Partnership is now in its second year and we’ve been working to develop the SSE offering to clubs during the summer so they can benefit directly from the partnership and make some real cost savings

  4. Utility Aid • Utility aid are a Utility Consultant with extensive experience in the Charity sector. • They help businesses choose the right energy contracts for their needs. • They were chosen to deliver the SSE Rugby Energy offering for 3 reasons: • Utility aid are in a position to deliver a national service • They operate proactively and will and help clubs through the whole process. • They have experience dealing with volunteers from the charity sector.

  5. SSE Rugby Energy Process Utility Aid to Contact Club Clubs provide bills and letter of Authority Utility Aid collect data and assess best available contract SSE Provide low cost “SSE Rugby Energy” Rates Club choose whether to take contract New Energy Contract with SSE

  6. Step 1 – Utility Aid Contact the Club • Utility aid will make first contact with the clubs, removing some of the hassle from volunteers and club officials. • If the club wish to take part they will be asked a few simple questions: • How big is the club? • How often is it used? • What times is it used? • What are the main energy demands of the club? • How long have you been with your energy supplier? • When does your energy contract end? • From these questions Utility Aid can start to get a picture of how the club runs.

  7. Step 2 – Clubs fill in letter of authority and send bills • Utility Aid will take care of most of the work in developing each club’s energy profile. • To do this Utility aid need a letter of authority to act on the club’s behalf with energy suppliers. This can be found at SSERUGBY.com • In order to get the best results Utility Aid need as many consecutive energy bills as can be provided but a minimum of the last 3 bills.

  8. Step 3 – Utility aid build a profile • Utility aid approach the clubs current supplier to get • Detailed consumption information • Current tariff and rates • From this they can create a unique proposal which they can then tender against SSE’s Rugby Energy Rates to give the clubs the best available deal. • On average, using a consultant like Utility Aid can save 10% on a utility renewal, SSE aim to reduce clubs costs further with SSE Rugby Energy.

  9. Step 4 – Signing a new contract • Utility aid will return an offer letter to the club containing: • Confirmation of current contract • Offer of new contracts (Typical 10% saving) • Offer of AMR metering • Offer of Bill validation services • AMR Metering: • more accurate (no more estimates) • Give better visibility of energy use. (better control) • improve your risk rating when you renew your energy contract. (reduce costs) • Bill validation: • 15% of energy bills are incorrect • Bill validation gets someone to check your bills before you pay them. • Highlight any changes in consumption

  10. What will come next? • SSErugby.com will have a comprehensive energy services section, where clubs can find more information on SSE Rugby Energy, guidance on energy savings and links to other SSE energy services. • SSE and the RFU are also working together to develop an energy survey offering for clubs to see where they can save energy. • SSE will ensure they are available to provide bespoke services such as boiler replacements, facility maintenance and infrastructure upgrades and provide quotes are required.
