  1. 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NKJV) who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. [21] There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 3:21

  6. 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NKJV) [20] who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

  7. 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NKJV) [21] There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, ,

  8. Genesis 7:13

  9. Don's nifty charts notwithstanding, the text of Peter does not identify the ark of Noah as the type. Antitupon modifies baptisma in the sentence. . . . Peter does not say the rite of baptism itself saves anyone. Bobby Valentine <restorationscholar@> www.sside-church.org Milwaukee, WI

  10. International Standard Bible Encyclopedia: “the like figure whereunto (even) baptism doth also now save us,” i.e. baptism is the antitype of the ark “wherein ... eight souls were saved (or brought safely) through water,” Revised Version “which also after a true likeness (“in the antitype”) doth now save you even baptism”);

  11. Romans 4:24-25 (KJV) [24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; [25] Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NKJV) [21] There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, ,

  12. 1 Peter 1:3 (KJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NKJV) [21] There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, ,

  13. Noah was physically delivered from God’s judgment upon a wicked world through the flood in the ark! We are spiritually delivered from God’s judgment upon a sinful world through the resurrection of Christ in baptism. Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV) By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

  14. Noah was physically delivered from God’s judgment upon a wicked world through the flood in the ark! We are spiritually delivered from God’s judgment upon a sinful world through the resurrection of Christ in baptism. Romans 6:3-5 (NKJV) . . . [4] Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. . . .

  15. McKnight's statement that baptism does not save is theologically true and Peter supports it. Mcknight's statement that one is "actually incorporated" into Jesus at baptism is likewise accurate and biblical. Finally, McKnight's dealing with baptism in the context of Romans is also accurate. Romans 6 is not about becoming a Christian brethren . . . Romans 6 is about LIVING AS A CHRISTIAN. Bobby Valentine <restorationscholar@> www.sside-church.org Milwaukee, WI

  17. G1906 – epero tema • Thayer Definition: • 1) an enquiry, a question • 2) a demand • 3) earnestly seeking • 3a) craving, an intense desire • Part of Speech: noun neuter • A Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: from G1905 • Citing in TDNT: 2:688, 262

  18. Vines: Interrogation - eperoµteµma (ejperwvthma , (1906)), primarily a question or enquiry, denotes a demand or appeal; it is found in 1 Pet. 3:21, R.V., “interrogation” (A.V., “answer”). Some take the word to indicate that baptism affords a good conscience, an appeal against the accuser.¶ Answer,Note:Eperoµteµma, 1 Pet. 3:21, is not, as in the A.V., an “answer.” It was used by the Greeks in a legal sense, as a demand or appeal.

  19. Arndt & Gingrich. Baptism is “an appeal to God for a clear conscience” (Greek Lexicon, p. 285). Kittel’s Theological Dictionary (Abridged), the rendition is this: “Baptism does not confer physical cleansing but saves as a request for forgiveness . . .” (p. 262).

  20. Johnson, Barton W. . . . "the interrogation of a good conscience." "Inquiry" would be still better. The soul seeking the forgiveness of sins "inquires" What shall I do to remove the sense of unforgiven sins and make my conscience void of offense? The answer is "Repent and be baptized," etc. See Acts 2:38. He who obeys the word of the Lord has the "inquiry" answered in baptism. "Commentary on 1 Peter 3". "People's New Testament".

  25. Genesis 7:23 (NKJV) So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive.
