Algebraic Expressions. Unit 1-1. Key Words:. Algebraic Expression: An expression that contains at least one variable. Ex. 2x 3x 2 + 3y – 5 Like Terms: Terms with the same variables raised to the same exponents. Ex. 4x 2 and 3x 2 Are 3xy and 4x?. Order of Operations.

  2. Key Words: • Algebraic Expression: An expression that contains at least one variable. Ex. 2x 3x2 + 3y – 5 • Like Terms: Terms with the same variables raised to the same exponents. Ex. 4x2 and 3x2 Are 3xy and 4x?

  3. Order of Operations • PEMDAS • Parenthesis () • Exponents 3x2 • Multiplication and Division* • Addition and Subtraction* *Multiplication and Division must be performed left to right. Multiplication is not necessarily first. Same with Addition and Subtraction.
