  1. What Is the Inca Trail and How to Hike It Safely The Inca Trail is a hiking route in Peru that runs from Cusco to Machu Picchu. It's also known as the QhapaqÑan, which means "main road" in Quechua, the native language of the Incas. It's one of the most popular trails in the world and has been used by tourists for decades.

  2. The Inca Trail is one of the most popular treks in the world, and with good reason. It's a strenuous hike that takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth, and it also has a fascinating history. The Inca Trail is a path that was used by the Incas to move troops and supplies between Cusco—the capital city of their empire—and Machu Picchu. It's approximately 42 kilometers (26 miles) long, and it takes hikers between four and five days to complete.

  3. Why is it so Popular? There are many reasons why this trail has become so well-known: it's relatively easy to hike, there are many different options for length and difficulty levels, you can choose whether or not to camp along the way (and if so, how far away from Machu Picchu), and it gives you an opportunity to see some of the most amazing sites on Earth (including Machu Picchu itself). If you are looking to make the most of your Inca Trail Hiking Tour, follow these tips listed below:

  4. Make sure you're physically prepared. This is not a casual walk; it will take all day (with rest breaks) for each day of the trek. You'll need good shoes with a good grip on slippery rocks! • Get there early. The trail can get crowded as people start arriving at different times during their tours. The first day of hiking is generally easy-going and is a mixture of uphill and downhill—make sure you have acclimatized yourself before starting out, so that you can enjoy the trek at a leisurely pace without having to hurry.

  5. Pack light! Your main clothing and personal items, as well as the camping equipment, will be carried by porters, you only need to carry your day pack which you need to carry around all day long. Make sure it's not too heavy! • Make sure you have enough water to reach the next stop; dehydration can be an issue, especially at the lower elevations on this trail! • VA Expeditions is the tour operator you can rely on for a memorable Inca Trail.
