  1. Two Fitness Pieces You Need Right Now Whether you’re running along the Dubai creek at sunrise or swimming laps before breakfast, these two bits of tech will make your life easier. Peter Barron runs – a lot. He runs in the mornings when Dubai is asleep and the weather chilled. He runs at nights while the city pulses around him and the sun sets over the horizon. He often runs in tight groups of a tighter community. And when he runs, he runs with one thing: his Samsung Gear Sport (Dhs1,199). “The watch allows me to better understand myself,” he explains. “It’s part of my lifestyle.” The Gear Sport provides continuous data feedback, ranging from heart-rate monitoring to calories burnt. Great connectivity means you can answer calls and send texts, while a ‘Samsung Pay’ function allows you to leave that wallet at home. It’s water resistant up to 50m, and it operates as a stand-alone music player. “I wear it during the day to see my heart-rate, and at night to judge what kind of quality sleep I get,” Barron adds. For him, sleep is just as important as nutrition and exercise when it comes to overall fitness. Running hasn’t always been a part of Barron’s lifestyle. He tells a story about how he trialled for high-level football back in the UK. “I got sent home because I failed a fitness test,” he explains. So he founded UYP Lifestyle (a fitness company with online training programs), gave up his job in the medical field and settled in Dubai. “The running group here is about building a community. For me, I don’t want a PB every time I run. I don’t want to win a marathon. I just love being around other runners. It drives my passion every day.” Barron points to the new Samsung Gear Icon X as handy for long training sessions (Dhs699).
