What Happens When You Get A DUI

DUI or Driving Under the Influence is an offense or crime of operating or driving a motor vehicle while being impaired by the influence of intoxicants, such as alcohol, recreational or prescription drugs, etc. to an extent that the operator becomes incapable of operating the vehicle safely.<br><br>While DUI can cause you a suspended license in PA, here are a few other things that can take place if you are convicted of a DUI.

  1. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET A DUI?

  2. IN THE CASE THAT YOU ARE SUSPECTED OF A DUI, YOU WILL BE TAKEN TO THE NEARBY POLICE STATION WHERE YOU WILL HAVE YOUR MUG SHOT AND FINGERPRINTS TAKEN.

  3. AT THE POLICE STATION, YOU’LL BE GIVEN THE DATE AND TIME OF YOUR TRIAL IN COURT TO FIGHT YOUR CASE.

  4. YOU ARE SUBJECTED TO A FINE IN ALL STATES IF YOU’RE CONVICTED OF DRUNK DRIVING. THE VALUE FOR THIS FINE DEPENDS UPON THE NATURE OF YOUR CASE. FOR INSTANCE, IF PROPERTY IS DAMAGED OR A CHILD IS HURT, THE FINE WILL BE INCREASED.

  5. IN MOST STATES, DRUNK DRIVING OFFENDERS ARE REQUIRED TO SERVE JAIL TIME WHOSE TIME PERIOD DEPENDS UPON THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE CASE.

  6. EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT SENTENCED TO JAIL TIME, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO UNDERGO SPECIFIC PERIOD OF PROBATION, THE EXPENSES OF WHICH YOU’D HAVE TO BEAR YOURSELF.

  7. ALMOST ALL OF THE JURISDICTIONS SUGGEST COMPLETING A DRUG AND ALCOHOL EDUCATION PROGRAM— DRUNK DRIVING SCHOOL—FOR THOSE WHO ARE CONVICTED OF A DUI.

  8. MANY JURISDICTIONS ALSO CONDUCT AN ALCOHOL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM FOR THE ONE WHO’S CONVICTED TO DETERMINE IF THE PERSON HAS AN ALCOHOL ABUSE DISORDER OR NOT.
