  1. Petkiosk.com.sg What to Feed Your Pet Guinea Pig? Basically, guinea pigs are herbivorous. They do not need dairy, eggs or meat in their diet. Fresh veggies and hay are the best options for them. Since they are rodents, they have sharp teeth which are made for chewing ant cutting fibrous stuff like grass. Their teeth keep growing and need constant chewing exercise to keep them sharp and functional. Since you love your pet guinea, it is important that you take precautions to feed your guinea at the right time and keep its cage and bowls clean. Fill the bowls with fresh food and water every day. Guineas munch the whole day. So ensure to keep fresh hay and veggies available round the clock. But out of all, hay for young guinea pigs is the best option. Fresh hay is ideal for these grazers both for their diet as well as for their teeth. While hay may be available freshly in the garden, there are packed feeds available for them which are nutritious and safe for them. They are a healthy combination of timothy, orchard and oats. Some alfalfa may also be added. But be careful not to add too much calcium content to their diet. This hay needs to be stored in a cool dry place to avoid moisture or mildew. Your guinea pig will love fresh fruits and veggies too. They can be given to them as an extra treat along with the hay. Bananas, berries, green peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, etc. are their favorites. But for most part, ensure an abundant supply of hay for your young guinea pig. They are available in pet stores as well as in medical stores which deal in veterinary items. Avoid food which is toxic for them, like avocados, coconuts, onions, garlic, etc. You can buy packed hay either over the counter from your store in the city, or order online from the numerous online stores available on the internet.
