  2. JCL Area C competition • What? The state-wide Latin club academic, athletic, and creative/performing arts competition for schools in our area • Where? Garland High School • When? February 23, 2013 

  3. How it works: Academic contests • You can enter TWO academic contests, BUT our school can only have 1 person compete in each contest per grade level. • This means that if Brianne and Suzy BOTH want to take the Level IV Latin derivative contest, we will have a “derivative-off” between them so only one of them will compete in that event.

  4. What are the academic contests offered? • Grammar • Latin Derivatives • Vocabulary • Mythology • Roman life • Latin literature • Roman history • Greek history • Greek life and literature • Greek derivatives • Mottoes, phrases, abbreviations, and famous quotations • Latin reading comprehension • Geography and monuments of the ancient world • Sight recitation • Dramatic interpretation • Latin oratory • Decathlon—this event covers grammar, vocab, Roman life, Roman history, Latin lit., mythology, reading comprehension, mottoes, latin derivatives, and geography and monuments

  5. What are the Athletic contests? • Volleyball • Basketball • BOTH contests are co-ed and we MUST have at least two girls on each of the teams.

  6. What are the artistic contests? NOTE: you can enter as many as you like • Charts, Illustrated Quotations, Maps, Posters • Drawing and Painting • Acrylic or Oil, Black Ink (including block printing), Black Pencil, Chalk or Pastel, Charcoal, Colored Ink, Colored Pencil, Mixed Media (any combination of the previously specified 8 media, no matter how minor), Watercolor (including water markers done with a brush) • Handicrafts • Decorative Stitching (smaller items including embroidery, counted cross stitch,  needlepoint), Dolls, Games, Glass, Jewelry, Large Models, Mosaics, Other Textiles (including quilts, batik, T-shirts, weaving), Pottery, Small Models, Sculpture • Multimedia • Photography • Traditional, Computer Enhanced • Paper Scrapbook • Digital Scrapbook

  7. Please take a sign-up sheet with you and turn it in to Mrs. JBY MONDAY AFTERNOON!
