College Planning Timeline • Freshman Year • Focus on academic success (Cs or better, good habits & routines) • Get involved- clubs, athletics, arts, music, drama, volunteer, etc. • Meet with your school counselor • Sophomore Year • PSAT • Get involved- clubs, athletics, arts, music, drama, volunteer, etc • Consider AP courses • Look for a great summer opportunity (job, internship or program- keep your brain active )

College Planning Timeline, cont. • Junior Year • Begin researching colleges & universities that you might be interested in • PSAT in October for National Merit • Prepare and take SAT or ACT in the spring • Consider AP courses • Meet with your school counselor to review your transcript • Register for NCAA Clearinghouse if you plan to pursue college athletics • Look for a great summer opportunity (job, internship or program- keep your brain active )

Researching Colleges & Universities • WHS College Visits • Admission counselors visit WHS regularly and meet in the College & Career Center • Calendar of visits available on Family Connection and on the Counseling Calendar • Sign up through Family Connection or see Mrs. Tucker! • Oregon University System College Night • Monday, October 18th at 7:00 pm • The Pointe • Campus Visits/Preview Days • Take a campus tour • Meet with an Admission Counselor • Attend a class • Eat in campus dining hall • Talk with students and faculty • Overnight visit (if offered)

  6. Researching Colleges & Universities • Consider Community College: • Transfer Degree (to a 4 Year College/University) • Associates Degree (2 Year) • Certificate Program (1 Year) • Community College Event in May • Spring application timeline • Application • Placement Tests • Advising Session

  7. College Planning Timeline, cont. • Senior Year • Make a final list of colleges that you will apply to and be aware of application deadlines for each college. You need to start the application process at least 4 weeks prior to the deadline • If necessary, take or re-take SAT and/or ACT no later than December • Financial Aid/FAFSA is available in January • Scholarship search is in the winter and spring • Make final decision by May 1st and send in deposit to secure your spot

College & Career Planning Tools • Family Connection • Web-based software purchased by the district to provide personal online college planning and management • http://connection.naviance.com/wilsonville or • WHS Website/College & Career/Family Connection • Students can also use Family Connection for the following services: • Research colleges • Create activity resumes • Access the WHS scholarship database • Sign-up for college visits • Access college data regarding 2006-2010 WHS graduates • Students will use Family Connection during their senior year to communicate where they are applying; to request transcripts; and to request teacher recommendations

College & Career Planning Tools • FAFSA4caster • www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov/ • Help you get an early start on the financial aid process by: • Providing you with an early estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid. • Giving you an experience similar to FAFSA on the Web • Allowing you to transfer all of your FAFSA4caster data to FAFSA on the Web once you are ready to apply for aid. • Providing you the option to apply for your Federal Student Aid PIN. • Increasing your knowledge of the financial aid process, and providing information about other sources of aid.
