  2. What is a Blog? A blog is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.(from Wikipedia, 11-07

Blog Examples • For the next couple of slides there will be examples of groups throughout the state who are using blogs to obtain information or promote services • There is free online software to use with some ads or you can purchase subscriptions without ads • Blogger (Google’s free software) https://www.blogger.com/start • Edublogs (http://edublogs.org) • Wordpress (http://wordpress.org)

How do you get your Blog delivered to you?Subscribe to a Blog feed. • Blogs have RSS (really simple syndication) feeds What does this mean? • Some RSS feeds will send you an email when there is an update. • Most let you copy the feed (you copy the url by clicking on the orange chiclet and choosing copy shortcut or Save target) • You then paste the shortcut url into the Aggegator of your choice

  9. How to add a feed to Bloglines Click on Add Feed. Then in the middle of the page paste the shortcut or url into the box next to subscribe. Then click on Subscribe

How to create a Podcast for free! • Gcast http://gcast.com create an account at Gcast, dial the toll free number, record your message, login and listen to your podcast • Garage Band on a Mac is as easy as opening the program and following the instructions. There is pre-mixed music to add to your podcast • Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net free open source software that you can edit and create your own music and/or podcast
