  1. IF Healthy Families are the Key to the Future Knowing what constitutes a Healthy Family must precede all other discussion

  2. Disturbed Families OR! • What disturbs a Nurses family? • How does this impact on attrition and shortage of Nurses, • How can Nurse’s families be reconciled, restored and healed? • How will this impact Safe staffing?

  3. The Foundation of each Familyis based on the Law of God • The Creation of the Family is specific: • Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;… • So God created man in His own image, … male and female He created them. • Then God blessed them, and God said to them…Genesis 1:26-31

  4. The Purpose of the Family is Specific • “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over …every living thing… • I have given you every herb that yields seed…every tree…for food…” • And the Lord commanded the man, “of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 1 and 2

  5. The Glory of Man • “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You take care of him? • You have made him a little lower than the angels; • You crowned him with glory and honour, • And set him over the works of Your hands. • You have put all these things in subjection under his feet.” Hebrews 2 : 6 - 8

  6. In Essence the Family is • A Divine Creation • Marriage - Unity of husband and wife • Monogamy • Unity of parents and children • Headship of Husband – who leads worship • Subordination of Children - boundaries • Common Concern – for the wider society

  7. Prayer of Thanksgiving • Let us thank God for the specific purpose and blessings of family starting with each husband and wife and then the children. • Praise God that we can: • Come to Him as our Heavenly Father with every concern • Ask Him for wisdom and guidance in order to better understand and manage ourselves, • Seek His counsel to manage and enjoy the different relationships within the family, • Encourage one another to more effectively share these insights to help patients, clients and friends to build healthy families.

  8. Hymn of Thanksgiving Chorus Verse 1 Bind us together, LORD There is only one God Bind us together There is only one King, With Cords that cannot be broken There is only one Body, Bind us together LORD That is why we sing Bind us togetherBind us together… Bind us together with love. Verse 2 Verse 3 Made for the glory of God, You are the family of God Purchased by His precious Son You are the promise divine, Born with the right to be clean You are God’s chosen desire For Jesus the victory has won. You are the glorious new wine Bind us together…Bind us together…

  9. Factors which disturb a healthy family Broken Relationships between: • Man and God. • Man and woman • Husband and wife. • Parents and children. • Siblings. • Members of the extended family

  10. A Judges verdict on a fractured Society • “Youth crime, child abuse, drug addiction and binge drinking is a direct result of the melt-down relations between parents and children. • Family breakdown is an epidemic affecting all levels of society from the Royal Family down. • It is a never-ending carnival of human misery. A cease-less river of distress.”

  11. Dislocated, fractured and broken families. • “Not every broken family produces dysfunctional children but almost every dysfunctional child is the product of a broken family. • Almost all society’s ills can be traced directly to the collapse of family life… • Almost every child in the care system or the youth justice system is part of a broken family. • Ditto the drug addict • Ditto the binge drinker • Ditto children who are truanting or who cannot behave at school.”

  12. Scratch the surface • “And you invariably find a miserable family, overseen by a dysfunctional and fractured parental relationship – or none at all. • This is as big a threat to every society as terrorism, street crime or drugs, but far more insidious. • It will be more destructive than any economic decline caused by international markets.”

  13. Hymn of Direction ‘WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD’ Husband, wife, parents and children will find strength and wisdom so that A battle of wills, domination or repression will not become issues that destroy peace and harmony.

  14. Trust and Obey When we walk with the LORD, In the light of His word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will He abides with us still, And with all Who will trust and obey. Trust and obey; For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus But to trust and obey.

  15. Trust and Obey 2 Not a shadow can rise, Not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt nor a fear, Not a sigh nor a tear, Can abide While we trust and obey. Trust and obey; For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus But to trust and obey.

  16. Trust and Obey 3 Not a burden we bear, Not a sorrow we share, But our toil He does quickly repay; Not a grief nor a loss, Not a frown nor a cross, But is blest If we trust and obey. Trust and obey; for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus But to trust and obey.

  17. Trust and Obey 4 But we never can prove The delights of His love, Until all on the alter we lay, For the favour He shows, And the joy He bestows, Are for them Who will trust and obey. Trust and obey; For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus But to trust and obey.

  18. Trust and Obey 5 Then in fellowship sweet We will sit at His feet, Or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, Where He sends we will go, Never fear, Only trust and obey. Trust and obey; For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus But to trust and obey.
