What are LearningWalks? • A brief slice of 4-5 classrooms • “Walkers” include members of the school’s community including teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, partners, community members • Are usually facilitated by the principal • Should take 1-2 hours altogether, including orientation and hall talk • Walkers provide feedback on what they saw across classrooms, not on individual teachers • “Do no harm”

  3. Why LearningWalks? • A means to monitor the implementation of common instructional practices • Allow walkers to learn what students are doing and learning; are not evaluative of teachers • Support the use of qualitative data • To inform a school’s professional development

  4. LearningWalk Protocol • Set up the LearningWalk • Orient the “Walkers”  • Conduct Classroom Visits • Hall Talk • Discussion • Feedback
