  2. For economists, graphs are useful and elegant tools for depicting information. For many students, graphs are just a bunch of lines that cross at random places.

  5. An alternative approach: • Arts-Based Learning • the incorporation of artistic expression into pedagogies for learning other disciplines

  6. It is becoming increasingly popular in • business schools • corporations • as a way to develop /foster skills for • communication • creative thinking • and leadership. Why? Nissley, N.   10. Instructions to students in groups: You’ll be shown a series of slides containing artistic representations of graphs we’ve worked with this semester. Your task is to: Explain which elements of the artistic representation led you to your answer Identify the type of graph shown

  11. Ways to use this approach: - in class (50 minutes) - homework - piecemeal

  12. Extension: Students create their own artistic version of the graph they find the most challenging.
