  1. Mark 9:30-32 Christ Had To Die And Rise Three Days Later

  2. The Flow Of Mark’s Writing Jesus begins to teach His passion: Mark 8:31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected…and be killed, and after three days rise again. Satan is beat by death and resurrection: Mark 9:26b-27 …“He is dead!” But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.

  3. Jesus Heads Toward Jerusalem Mark 9:30-31 From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

  4. The Disciples Failure To Understand Mark 9:10 They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant. Mark 9:32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. Mark 9:34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.

  5. Applications 1. God was in control of Jesus’ death on the cross, and the entire Trinity is responsible for our salvation. 2. Jesus fulfills the Old Testament expectation of God’s anointed being raised on the “third day.” 3. We should learn to ask God for wisdom and seek Him through the Scriptures.

  6. 1. God Was In Control Of Jesus’ Death Mark 9:31a For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him… Isaiah 53:6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.

  7. 1. God Was In Control Of Jesus’ Death God the Father delivered Him over: Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? The Son delivered Himself over: Ephesians 5:2 walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

  8. 1. Our Salvation: A Trinitarian Work The Holy Spirit enables us to believe: 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. All Glory belongs to God! Isaiah 43:11 “I, even I, am the LORD, And there is no savior besides Me.

  9. 2. Jesus Fulfills O.T. By Being Raised On 3rd Day Mark 9:31b when He has been killed, He will risethree days later.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…

  10. 2. Jesus Fulfills O.T. By Being Raised On 3rd Day Principle: “The Seed” Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.” Many One Many

  11. 2. Jesus Fulfills O.T. By Being Raised On 3rd Day The King who would not experience decay: Psalm 16:8-10 I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

  12. 2. Jesus Fulfills O.T. By Being Raised On 3rd Day The Priest who would be a down payment: Hosea 6:1-2 “Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. “He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him. Many 1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. One Many

  13. 2. Jesus Fulfills O.T. By Being Raised On 3rd Day The Prophet who would be raised for a sign: Matthew 12:39-40 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

  14. 3. Seek The Lord For Wisdom Mark 9:32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. James 1:5-6 NET But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind.
