  5. Do you want to live? • Eph 6:1 - Eph 6:3(TMNT) 1 Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right.  2“Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely,  3“so you will live well and have a long life.”

  6. Do you want to live? Prov. 1:8-9 8. Pay close attention, friend, to what your father tells you; never forget what you learned at your mother’s knee. 9 Wear their counsel like flowers in your hair, like rings on your fingers.

  7. Do you want to live? Prov. 6:20-24 20 Good friend, follow your father’s good advice; don’t wander off from your mother’s teachings. 21 Wrap yourself in them from head to foot; wear them like a scarf around your neck. 22 Wherever you walk, they’ll guide you; whenever you rest, they’ll guard you; when you wake up, they’ll tell you what’s next. 23 For sound advice is a beacon, good teaching is a light, moral discipline is a life path.

  8. Do you want to live? • Prov. 12:1-3 1 If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it— how shortsighted to refuse correction! 2 A good person basks in the delight of God, and he wants nothing to do with devious schemers. 3 You can’t find firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm.

  9. Do you want to live? Prov. 6:16 -19 16 Here are six things God hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: 17 eyes that are arrogant, a tongue that lies, hands that murder the innocent, 18 a heart that hatches evil plots, feet that race down a wicked track, 19 a mouth that lies under oath, a troublemaker in the family.

  10. Do you want your children to live? Ephesians 6:1 Part III

  11. Do you want your children to live? • Eph. 6:4 And now a word to you fathers. Don’t make your children angry by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved by the Lord.

  12. Do you want your children to live? • The father is primarily responsible for training the children. • Not the mothers or the grandmothers • Not the school counselors or principal • Not the police and not the courts. • Not their friends

  13. Do you want your children to live? • The father’s goal is to develop in their children: • Love in stead of anger • Respect instead of disrespect • Motivation and depression • Excellence instead of mediocrity. • By how they treat them • Children are not slaves, • Punching bags or dogs to be kicked when you are having a bad day. • Children are not mistakes or excess baggage. • They are gifts from God

  14. Do you want your children to live? How do you treat your children? • Providing an environment where they can see love, respect and honor being demonstrated in your relationship with your wife: Eph 5:25-33 • 25 Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. •  26 Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her,  • 27 dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness.  • 28 And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage.

  15. Do you want your children to live? How do you treat your children? 1 Peter 3:7-9 • 7 The same goes for you husbands: Be good husbands to your wives. Honor them, delight in them. As women they lack some of your advantages. But in the new life of God’s grace, you’re equals. Treat your wives, then, as equals so your prayers don’t run aground. • 8 Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble.  • 9 That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing.

  16. Do you want your children to live? How do you treat your children? • By providing the financial means by which they can live and function 1 Tim. 3:7 •  4 He must handle his own affairs well, attentive to his own children and having their respect. 5 For if someone is unable to handle his own affairs, how can he take care of God’s church?

  17. Do you want your children to live? 1 Tim. 5:8 • 7 Tell these things to the people so that they will do the right thing in their extended family. 8 Anyone who neglects to care for family members in need repudiates the faith. That’s worse than refusing to believe in the first place. Titus 3:14 • 14 Our people have to learn to be diligent in their work so that all necessities are met (especially among the needy) and they don’t end up with nothing to show for their lives.

  18. Do you want your children to live? How do you treat your children? • By rearing them in a God-centered way: • Your children must know, believe in, love, reverence and serve the Lord Deut. 6:6-7 • 5 Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got! • 6 Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you  • 7 and then get them inside your children.Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night.  • 8 Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; 9 inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.

  19. Do you want your children to live? • Fathers must lead, direct and discipline. • Fathers are responsible for what happening to our young people. • If you bring a child into this world you must see the job through. • You are a father for life.

  20. Note to Kids. • Your Fathers is not your friend • He is much better than that. • He cares, provides information you depend upon, loves and protects • Your friends are still trying to figure out who they are. • Don’t listen to them.
