  1. PCRF for Radius basedBroadband Networks

  2. What is PCRF PCRF is the Policy and Charging Rules Function. It is at the heart of any modern day service provider’s core network and allows to define rules that govern the way services are delivered and charged

  3. AdvOSS PCRF AdvOSS PCRF includes a rule based engine along with options for: • Bandwidth Management • QoS Management • Charging Management • Advanced Rule Based Actions

  4. Quotas • AdvOSS PCRF also includes a quota manager that allows counting of usage by individual subscribers. • Together PCRF allows to fulfill many important use cases.

  5. Volume Caps AdvOSS PCRF allows a Service Provider to create subscriptions that have bundled volume caps e.g. • 1MB-10GB • 1MB-Unlimited volume

  6. Fair-Usage AdvOSS PCRF allows a service provider to define fair-usage policies. Once a user goes beyond its usage threshold(s), fair-usage actions can kick-on. They may be: • Bandwidth throttling • Start of Charging • Service Denial

  7. Fair-Usage • Bandwidth throttling

  8. Fair-Usage • Start of Charging

  9. Fair-Usage • Service Denial

  10. Time Based Quotas AdvOSS PCRF allows to define time based packages where the usage is only counted during specific periods of the day allowing defining of packages like: 1MB – 5GB with unlimited usage from 2:00am to 8:00am

  11. Advanced Quotas AdvOSS PCRF allows defining very advanced quotas through counter matching algorithms e.g. • Quotas for roaming only • Quotas for a specificaccess method like Wi-Fi • Quotas for a specific AAARealm

  12. Advanced Quotas

  13. Mid-Service Alerts A Service Provider can interrupt the service and push mid-service alerts from time to time. This may be for payment reminders, policy notices, advice of charge, advertisements or other reasons.

  14. Advanced Actions PCRF allows many advanced actions based on rules evaluation including: • Customized Notifications • Lawful Intercept • Different Regulatory requirements • Captive Portals • Network Provisioning

  15. Advanced Actions Captive Portal

  16. Advanced Actions Payment Notification

  17. Advanced Actions Package Upgrade

  18. Advanced Actions Bill shock Prevention

  19. Advanced Actions Advice Of Charge

  20. Advanced Actions Grace Period

  21. Other use cases Many more use cases can be realized over a PCRF solution. Some of them can be found at http://advoss.com/pcrf-business-usecases.html

  22. Deployment Scenarios • AdvOSS PCRF can be deployed along with AdvOSS Radius. This allows minimum interruption of services for anyone

  23. Proxy based deployment

  24. Offline Deployment

  25. Radius Replacement

  26. Full PCRF with AAA & Charging Solutionfor Greenfield Service Providers

  27. DPI Use Cases In conjunction with a DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) engine, AdvOSS PCRF offers control of individual application flows offering: • Flow Based Control • Application Based QoS Assurance

  28. Advanced QoS Management If the Enforcement layer supports more granular QoS control, then AdvOSS PCRF can be configured to control QoS parameters for the full pipe or individual flows. Main QoS parameters include: • Maximum Bit Rate (MBR) • Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR) • Allocation Retention Policy (APR)

  29. Diameter Interface AdvOSS PCRF is fully diameter compliant and offer standard 3GPP interfaces for Diameter protocol including: • Gx • Rx • Ud (immediate roadmap) • Rx+ (roadmap)

  30. Conclusion AdvOSS PCRF offers a comprehensive solution that allows a new generation service provider to offer multiple use cases that allows them to better control their services and align their revenue with their resources.
