It's widely used as an industrial deodorizer, bleaching agent, disinfectant, and stabilizer in organic synthesis. This yellow crystalline powder, with a distinctly chlorine-like "smelling" smell, is sometimes sold as a domestic ingredient in tablet or granular form for household and commercial use. Trichloroisocyanuric acids are insoluble in water, so they're not soluble in oil, grease, or other substances. In order to effectively remove chlorine gas from swimming pools, one would need more than just trichloroisocyanuric acid. While there are no known negative health effects of this disinfectant, there are a few potential environmental hazards associated with it. This chemical compound can be removed through simple bleaching, but the removal process weakens the compound, which could lead to degradation in water sources over time.
