  19. The Clinical Center’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Challenges, strategies, and how we use fun to make things work!September 19, 2012

  20. Background: CC organization and challenges • Over 2,000 staff and contractors • Large footprint • Clinics, labs & off-campus (Executive, Democracy) • Round-the-clock schedules • Physicians, nurses and support staff • Different types of jobs • Clinical, operational, training & everything in between • Reaching staff who don’t have typical desk jobs (i.e. nutrition, housekeeping) • Past successful events are no longer allowed, such as the basket drawing, which raised over $10K each year

  21. How have we addressed these challenges? • CC motto: 100% Ask (we never mention the monetary goal) • Weekly keyworker emails • Motivating quotes, examples of fun events being planned by departments, “charity spotlight”, and fliers that can be posted in offices • CC core team coordinates CC-wide special events that focus on FUN • To bring attention to CFC • To include a broad range of employees • To encourage participation • To encourage charitable giving

  22. Principles of special events • HAVE FUN! • Broad appeal • Easy to understand and participate • Opportunity for competition between departments • Inclusive of all CC staff (which means scheduling later in the week, during lunch time) • Involve CC leadership • Spread the word: weekly keyworker emails, posters, fliers, CC-wide emails, Department Head announcements • Include CFC information at each event
