    3. Student Sections Competition a.k.a. Ingersoll Rand a.k.a. Allied Signal a.k.a. Bendix Competition Now a “big-ASME” Competition Should we go “local?”

    4. Student Sections Competition Awards: $300, a permanent plaque, and a traveling trophy (if there is one) to the student section that earns the most points. $200 and a permanent plaque to the student section that earns the second most points. $100 to the student section scoring the third most points. $50 to the student section showing the greatest numerical improvement in points. A Certificate of Accomplishment to each student section scoring 400 or more points.

Student Sections Competition Awards: First Place Inter-district Award: $750, Permanent First Place Trophy Second Place Inter-district Award: $500, Permanent Second Place Trophy Third Place Inter-district Award: $250, Permanent Third Place Trophy Appropriate publicity provided in ASME newsletter and Mechanical Advantage

    6. Student Sections Competition Fundamental Purposes Encourage professionalism Encourage participation in technical events Build character toward good citizenship Promote learning about real world engineering. Recognize student sections that show outstanding achievement

Student Sections Competition Requirements: Preliminary Report Monthly Reports Final Report with details of: Meetings Tours Social Functions Membership Service Activities Regional Contests Professional Development Upgrade Activities (The final report must be mailed due to the supplemental information required.)

    8. Student Sections Competition Scoring Opportunities at SPDC Student Section with the largest number of Student-Section Members in attendance Student Section with the largest percent of Membership in attendance (Your Attendance Number divided by your Membership X 100%)

Scoring is a Head-Ache Scoring: A comprehensive set of variables is used to evaluate student section effectiveness Each variable is weighted, and the strength of a section is determined by the total number of points accumulated A good section is one that exhibits a wide diversity of activities.     11. “Preliminary Report” a.  Names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of officers, student section advisor, and department chair.  b.  Names of committee chairs (if any). c.  Means of communicating with students, including home page address. d.  Schedule of meetings. e.  Schedule of tours.

    14. “Monthly Reports” MONTHLY REPORTS (5 points per submission)  30 points baseline max A Monthly Report (starting with the March report) should be postmarked by the fifteenth of the month following the month for which the report is made. The February Monthly Report should be attached to the Final Report. All Monthly Reports should include - -

    15. “Monthly Reports” - - the following information (if performed) filled out on Supplement 1 (duplicate if necessary). a.  Date of meetings, subject. b.  Date of tours, name of facility. c.  Date of social functions, description. d.  Date of news articles, number of pages.

    17. “Meeting Styles” Speaker that is not engineering faculty from section's school. 3 Joint meeting with ASME senior section. 3 Speaker from engineering faculty of section's school. 2 Video presentation. 2 Joint meeting with other student group. 2 Business meeting of ASME student section. 2

    18. “Meeting Styles” Planning meetings for ASME special events or fund-raisers. 1 ASME executive committee meeting.     20. “Meeting Points” For calculating percentage (%) of members attending, use the student section roster of membership closest to the date of the event. The student section advisor receives a monthly roster of membership throughout the school year. Use either percentage or total number of attendees to maximize Attendance Factor Attendance (minimum of 3 students) etc etc

Nomination Kits are sent to District Leadership for selection of one “District” Nominee; forwarded to ASME Awards Committee.

Student-Section “Advisor of the Year” Award What to document in the Kit: Encouraging Student Membership Promoting professional activities and programs at the Student Section Encouraging continued membership in ASME after graduation.
