  1. Choosing The Right TIG Welder

  2. Tips to Choose the Right TIG Welder • While TIG welding comes with several advantages over other forms of fabricating, it doesn't mean it is the world's best welding process. • Users of TIG welding machine should familiarize themselves with various metal arc fabrication and shielded fabrication processes to gain maximum benefit. • While this fabricating process comes with a long list of advantages, it isn't the right process for all applications. • The following are factors to consider when looking for the right TIG welder.

  3. Portability • A Small TIG welding machine is light, and users can move them around. • Contrary, the larger units can weigh up to 100 pounds, and users might need to use a cart to move them around their workshop. • Small welders are still versatile and come with enough power to complete projects that require a shorter duty cycle. • After considering the power output and duty cycle of a welding machine, portability is often the other factor that welders have to consider.

  4. Pulsed Welding • Of course, welders have to control the amount of heat they apply a metal. • Advances in the welding landscape have enabled inventors to create thousands of pulses per second, which is an increase from 20 pulses per second on the old TIG welding machines. • A welder can use pulsing on thin metals or stiff joints that can rust or burn when subjected to extreme much heat. • The higher the pulse rate a welder has, the stronger their weld will be as it will give them control over their weld puddle.

  5. A higher pulsing rate also constricts and focuses the arc, and this can help fabricators limit the heat they apply to the weld. • With a higher pulsing rate, welders will have less extra metal to remove and travel faster along the weld, resulting in a clean weld. • With the best welding technology, fabricators can create excellent welds and save on material and time.

  6. Water-Cooled Torch vs. Air-Cooled Torch • While metal fabricators can go with a water-cooled torch, there are times they wish they had an air-cooled torch. • Of course, the torch will heat up at a higher power output, but most welders are okay with it. • In contrast, a water-cooled torch comes with a smaller head that enables TIG welders to make their welds fine even in tight spots. • A water-cooled torch also spares welders the extreme heat generated on industrious projects when an air-cooled torch can't handle it.

  7. Foot Pedal • Foot pedals that are reliable are essential in any TIG welding project. • Metal fabricators often do their tasks in awkward positions, and both of their hands are needed to hold the filler rod and the torch. • With a reliable foot pedal, a TIG welder can control power usage to ensure their pedal doesn't become too large. Welding machines with unreliable foot pedals often slope at a high angle, causing foot fatigue. • Metal fabricators should make sure their foot pedals are responsive as they adjust the level of heat generation.

  8. Frequency Settings • Operating at higher frequency settings enable a TIG welder to control the arc and maximize their output. • As such, fabricators might need to inspect their welding machines to ensure everything snaps into the position, • especially when one wants to move around their workshop with the TIG welding machine.

  9. For greater versatility and extra features, metal fabricators should go for a machine that has both plasma cutting and stick welding capabilities. • These capabilities will increase the range of potential projects and help TIG welders save on metal fabrication by enabling them to complete any project that comes their way. • Metal fabricators might also need to consider the quality of the arc because cheaper models tend to have stability issues.
