    1. Web Based Teaching Tool (WBTT) Program overview

    2. Agenda What is WBTT? WBTT Program goals The Dynamic Screening & Intervention Model The Response to Intervention Model WBTT Steps WBTT look & feel Why use WBTT? Contact information

    3. What is WBTT? The Web Based Teaching Tool is an online program which primary teachers (JK to Grade 2) use for early screening and intervention

    4. WBTT Program Goals To increase student achievement in Ontario To close the early achievement gap To support the classroom-based model, where screenings, interventions and progress monitoring take place by the classroom teacher To differentiate students with learning difficulties from those requiring extra support To provide additional support to students who need it as early as possible

    5. Dynamic Screening & Intervention Model (DSIM)

    6. Importance of DSIM It increases student achievement and reduces future academic difficulties It helps teachers implement data-driven instruction It ensures struggling students get extra support, if needed

    7. The Response to Intervention Model (RTI) WBTT aligns with the RTI model because it ensures; Universal screening takes place Flagged students are detected and supported as early as possible Flagged students who continue to struggle receive more intensive interventions RTI is backed by over 20 years of research demonstrating its effectiveness RTI is based on a tiered instruction system…

    8. The Response to Intervention Model (RTI)

    9. RTI and WBTT The following is required for DSIM and RTI to be successful in increasing student achievement: High quality classroom instruction Ongoing student screening/assessment Tiered instruction Parent involvement

    10. Step 1: Screening Screening tools are used to detect students who are potentially at-risk for future school difficulties WBTT’s screens are quick and easy to administer and score Screening results help educators decide whether to take specific actions (e.g., increase the amount of support, provide additional assessments or instructional activities)

    11. Step 1: Screening Teachers screen students with tools to measure school readiness, phonological awareness and math

    12. Step 2: Flagging Students who fall below benchmarks are flagged as potentially at-risk for future school difficulties Suggested intervention options for the student are provided based on screening results

    13. Step 3: Interventions WBTT provides teachers with a database of interventions that can be added to flagged students’ profiles Research has shown that early intervention increases student achievement

    14. Step 4: Continual Monitoring Interventions help track students’ progress Observation Checklists help determine the strengths and needs of flagged students, and help monitor their progress, or lack thereof

    22. Why use WBTT? It is easy and quick to administer It is an effective predicting tool It provides interventions that benefit students It offers strategies for teachers

    23. Why use WBTT? It helps educators detect and support struggling students as soon as they start school It encourages the home-school connection by promoting parent involvement and ongoing discussions between teachers and parents It is a bilingual tool – English & French All screenings are research-based, valid and reliable Since principals and school boards have access to WBTT information, student achievement is supported at all levels

    24. Why use WBTT? It is free to all publicly funded schools on Ontario through the Ministry of Education It is currently used by 68% of school boards across Ontario 30,000 students are screened and supported yearly Over 100,000 students have been screened and supported since 2004 It has been used by educators for seven years
