  1. It is situated on the Italian Peninsula and on the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea: Sicily and Sardinia.

  2. ROME-The Eternal City Rome is the capital of Italy. Today it is a modern city but it has many old monuments.

  3. The Coliseum It is one of Rome’s symbols. Parts of this old stadium were built almost 2,000 years ago.

  4. The Roman Forum was the centre of Rome. It was a complex of temples and public buildings. Today it is a popular tourist attraction.

  5. Vatican City is the centre of the Catholic Church. It has many cathedrals, art galleries and museums.

  6. Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel.

  7. The city is crossed by the river Arno. The oldest bridge is Ponte Vecchio.

  8. The Duomo is the most famous monument in Florence.

  9. Florence has spectacular parks, like the Boboli Gardens.

  10. The Palazzo Vecchio (the Old Palace) is the Town Hall of Florence.

  11. Venice is situated on 120 islands formed by 177 canals. The largest is the Grand Canal.

  12. The centre and most visited part of the city is Saint Mark’s Square, where there are Saint Marks Cathedral and the Doge’s Palace.

  13. The Venetian Carnival is the most famous carnival in Italy and it attracts tourists from all over the world.

  14. The Mount Rosa is the most amazing part of the Italian Alps; the scenery is breathtaking and unique.

  15. The Lake Maggiore is the largest of the Italian lakes situated not far from the Alps. It has three islands.
