  5. A lot ofwork has been done – we have goodpractices and examples to show, butwe still need to do more. We all have challenges and someofthemarecommon. The guidelines aregood in the Nordic countries. Differences in legislation. Universal Design should be an integrated part of all design and all constructionwork. Accessibility is only visible whenyoudon’tsee it. «One sizedoesn’tfit all». Growingelderlypopulation in the Nordic countries is a commonchallenge. Aim to increaseuseofpublic transport, walking and cycling. Benefit and strengthofthe Nordic position in an open and integrated European Union. Co-venture is a key to success. This conference has broughtustogether as a first step.

Common ticketing machines – universally designed in Nordic and Russian languages • - Choice: text-to-speach all languages • - Possible to choose user interface • - Accessible service height 0,8 – 1,1 m • 4. Stations – universallydesignedwith rest areas, accessibleinformastionsigns, lifts where relevant, lighting and accousticsrequirements, guidelines, hearingaid loops at receptions • - Conformity test rules and Nordic/ Russian certification system with a commoncertificationbadge. • Cooperation between Statsbygg in Norway and the authorities in Murmansk regarding universal design in public buildings. • Cooperation between Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Government in Murmansk: Roads, area for pedestrians.

Workshop: Summary #3 • Making a common journey planner for «the accidental tourist» in the Barents region (information). • Datacollection is the first step. • Start in Norway, Finland and Sweden. Finance from EU, include Russian part when finance is identified. • Destination Barents – a challenge to the tourism sector. Standards Norway has created a standard for classification of hotels. • Pilot / demo solution for boarding solutions to airports in the Barents Region • Basic understanding / information, guidelines insteadof standards – how to do it? • Information centreabouthow to buildaccessible, example in St. Petersburg, builtwith support from Finland • Shareour best examples/ideas/solutions – inspire- focusonthegoodthings. • Followthemoney – universel design can be good business – how? • Educatedecision-makers and let it drip.
