  15. Environmental Impact • Producing, storing and transporting • food to us uses up a lot of energy • and resources • If we were to stop wasting food it would be the equivalent of taking1 in 5 cars off UK roads

The benefits of planning • Saves money by using up what’s left • Saves time • Enables you to cook double and freeze half • Prevents buying things you already have • Can help get others involved in meal planning and preparation • More nutritionally balanced meals • Less stressful – no need to try and think • of things to eat each day • Helps use up freezer meals

  34. Launched April 2013 • available for both iPhone and Android devices and in Welsh • app enables users to organise a wide range of information and features, and tailor this to their own, individual requirements.

  35. ‘My kitchen’ – store details of all the foods you’ve got at home in your fridge, freezer and cupboards. Add ‘use by’ reminders so you don’t waste food

Your ‘shopping list’ tracks everything you need for your planned meals • Instantly ‘unpack’ your food purchases into your virtual kitchen • The updated app also offers a ‘My profile’ area where users can record what they’ve cooked, culinary ‘achievements’, and, the chance to opt for connecting via Facebook or Twitter with friends and family who also use the app.

  42. The Big Lunch takes place on 2 June. Father’s Day on the 16th June  In June and July LFHW theme is looking at food we waste when we’re eating out.   In August and September we’re focussing on students ‘The First Stir Fry, a student’s guide – helping students make the most of their food and budgets as they leave home to start a new life’.
