  2. Christopher Columbus was born in Italy. His father and both grandfathers were cloth makers. Columbus was a seaman and made many sea voyages.

  4. First voyage(1492-1493)

  5. In 1492 the King and the Queen of Spain gave him money to go to India. He decided to sail west as he was sure that our planet was round. There were 3 caravels: the Santa Maria, the Nina and the Pinta. After sailing 4000 miles he reached some land.

  6. The crew saw something like a white cliff and cried out: "Tierra! Tierra!". Columbus thought 'that it must be India but it was not.

  7. It was a new land — a new continent. It as America. Columbus named the land they had reached San Salvador ("Holy Saviour"). People began to speak about the land as "The new World".

  8. Second voyage (1493-1496)

  10. Fourth voyage (1502-1504)

  11. May 20, 1506 Columbus uttered his last words: "Into your hands, Lord, I entrust my spirit." Restless fate awaited his remains. Columbus was buried in Seville, but then in the execution of his will remains were reburied on Hispaniola. In 1795, the island became a French colony, and the dust of Columbus was in Cuba, and in 1877 - again in Seville, where it rests to this day.
