  1. OCR Cambridge Nationals in SPORT STUDIES (Level 1/2) R052 Developing Sports Skills

  2. Skills, techniques and tactics Every sport is different and having a high level of health and fitness doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to be good at everything you take part in. Each sport has it’s own individual set of skills, techniques and tactics as well as sharing common skills, techniques and tactics with other sports. The key is knowing what to use and when. For instance…

  3. Skills, techniques and tactics Just because you can run fast on a track… ...doesn’t mean you can do it with a ball at your feet.

  4. Skills, techniques and tactics And just because man to man defending works in a game of hockey… …it doesn’t mean it will work in a game of basketball.

  5. Knowing what is and isn’t allowed in a sport helps us to develop appropriate skills, techniques and tactics. Knowing the rules And nobody knows the rules better than the official.

  6. Knowing the rules Not only does an official have to know the rules of a sport inside and out but they also have their own set of skills to develop, like: It’s a lot harder than it looks. positioning signalling accuracy

  7. Practice makes perfect This means taking a look at yourself and working out: Skills don’t just improve all by themselves, therefore, if you want to improve your sporting abilities, you have to practice and try new things. In what type of situation you need to improve What your strengths are How important the skill you are learning is What your weaknesses are If there are other activities you can get involved in that will help develop your skills How you learn best

  8. Practice makes perfect Then you need to track your progress as you improve, if nothing else this will keep you motivated.

  9. What will you learn? Skills, techniques and tactics that can be used as an individual performer or as a team performer. How to be creative, adaptable, make decisions and work out your role in a team. How to officiate sporting activities. The best methods of practice for you and the skills you need to improve.
