  2. Cutting the nails Narrated Abu Huraira (ra): I heard the Prophet pbuh saying. "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra (Man's Nature to Worship God): circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails, and removing the hair of the armpits." (Bukhari) Anas (ra) reported: A time limit has been prescribed for us for clipping the moustache, cutting the nails, removing hair under the armpits, shaving the pubic hair, that it should not be neglected for more than forty nights. (Muslim) Module 1 – Circle 12b

Circumcision Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) having said that Ibrahim circumcised himself with the help of an adz when he was eighty years old.(Muslim) 1) Protection against local infection to the male private part 2) Protection against infections of the urethra (urine tube) 3) Protection against cancer of the male private part Module 1 – Circle 12b

  4. Removal of Pubic Hair & Underarm Hair Narrated Abu Huraira (ra) : I heard the Prophet pbuh saying. "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra(Man's Innate Predisposition to Worship God): circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails, and removal of the hair of the armpits." (Bukhari) Module 1 – Circle 12b

  5. How should this hair be removed? For males, the most common method of removing this hair is by shaving. If you choose to use this method, you should always use a clean razor blade, and ensure that the blade is only used to shave this region, i.e. it is recommended not to use the same razor to shave the face. Removal of this hair should be done at least once in forty days. Module 1 – Circle 12b

  6. Keeping one’s body clean & fresh "Ghusl (taking a bath) on Friday is compulsory for every Muslim reaching the age of puberty." (Bukhari) Module 1 – Circle 12b

  7. Changing ones clothes & underwear Cleanliness is half of faith, and hence wearing clean clothes is a part of our Deen. Always check your clothes for dirt and smells before wearing them. If there are marks in your underwear from excrement/urine, then you should change your underwear as soon as you notice. Module 1 – Circle 12b

  8. Wet Dreams If a person has a wet dream, he then becomes ritually impure (Junub), and must purify himself (by Ghusl). Module 1 – Circle 12b

  9. What is Ghusl, and when does it become necessary? 1) If a person ejaculates whether they are awake or asleep 2) After sexual contact 3) After Death 4) When an unbeliever embraces Islam Module 1 – Circle 12b

  10. Can a person pray or read Quran if they need to make Ghusl? The Prophet pbuh said:The prayer is not accepted without purification.’ [Muslim] The Prophet pbuh also stated that: Only the one who is pure can touch the Qur’aan.’ [Maalik] Module 1 – Circle 12b

  11. Can a person sleep in the state of Janabah (impurity)? Narrated `Aisha: Whenever the Prophet intended to sleep while he was Junub, he used to wash his private parts and perform ablution like that for the prayer. (Bukhari) Module 1 – Circle 12b

  12. Masturbation The majority of scholars consider it haram. Imam Malik bases his judgement on the verse, “Those who guard their sexual organs except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possess, for (with regard to them) they are without blame. But those who crave something beyond that are transgressors” (23:5-7) Module 1 – Circle 12b

Ghusl Method Fard: 1) Washing the mouth 2) Passing water into the nostrils 3) Washing the entire body with water Sunnah: 1) Washing the hands upto the wrists 2) Washing the private parts and the parts over which uncleanliness is found 3) Niyyah (intention) of washing off any unseen filth & making Ghusl 4) Making wudu before washing the body 5) Then passing water over the whole body thrice.   14. The Awrah A man should not look at the 'awrah of another man, nor a woman of a woman, nor should a man go under one cloth with another man, nor a woman with another woman. (Muslim) Module 1 – Circle 12b

  15. Pornography The Prophet pbuh said: No man or woman should look at the naked body of each other (unless married to one another). (Muslim) Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger pbuh said: Allah has written for Adam's son his share of adultery which he commits inevitably. The adultery of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the adultery of the tongue is the talk, and the inner self wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it. (Bukhari, Muslim) Module 1 – Circle 12b

  16. Guarding yourself from evil Allah swt says in the Quran: "Tell the believing men that they should reduce/lower their gaze/vision and guard their private parts" (24:30) Jarir ibn 'Abdullah narrated, "I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) about the unexpected glance. He replied, 'Avert your eyes,' meaning, do not look back deliberately." (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Muslim, and al-Tirmidhi.) Module 1 – Circle 12b
