Why Safety? • Safety procedures help to: • Keep ALL participants safe • Keep the tools and equipment from being damaged • Keep the robot parts from being damaged

Keep the Students Safe • Make sure all participants know general shop safety procedures • Have them pass a safety quiz before operating any equipment? • Safety Contract? • Notebook and this link has a sample quiz for you to review / use
Safe Behaviors • Be sure they know safe behavior in a shop or the pit • Wear safety goggles • Leave a safe distance between working student and others watching, etc. • Don’t distract someone working with a tool or a piece of equipment
Equipment Usage • Know the safe way to use the equipment • Make sure they know how to operate a tool or piece of equipment before they turn it on • Have them plan what they are going to do and how they are going to do it before they start • Don’t rush… take their time
Don’t Forget… • Safety is a required topic in the Engineering Notebook • Document what your team does to ensure safety • Practice safety habits consistently • Pictures should show students with safety glasses when working on robot • We’ll monitor safety at our events
