  7. Starting a project Create a • Hermeneutic Unit (HU) = Primary Unit or Whole Project using your • Primary Document (P-Doc) = the individual documents imported for coding with • .RTF / .TXT /.DOCX /.PDF/ Video-audio /.JPEG

Saving with Atlas.ti 7.1 • SAVING TWO DIFFERENT THINGS • HU’s--- the work of Atlas.Ti (code, quotes, memos) • Project Material: P-docs such as doc., pictures, .txt • Select a Location **cannot save in the virtual cloud** • Save As… • Save Project – Copy Bundle – Create Bundle • Open Project - Copy Bundle- Install Bundle

Using the VCL • Go to library.nyu.edu --> • Under tab, select Research Assistance --> • Select Data Services --> • Select Software --> • Scroll down to Atlas.ti --> • Click on NYU's VCL • Click on Getting Started • Click on vcl.nyu.edu • Click on Log in to VCL Now! • You should be able to go from there.

Using Atlas.ti in the VCL • To view your files on your Mac while using Atlas.ti through the VCL, you must do the following: • First, convert your Word (.docx) files to Plain Text (.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf). • In Atlas.ti: • Under "Project" • Select "Add Documents" • Select "Assign External Documents" • In pop up screen, click on the desktop icon in left side column (if your files are stored there) • Click on "Access Local Files" • Click on "Read and Write" • You should able to now see your txt files and then import them into Atlas.ti.
