Animal Health & Production (AHPC) US National Invasive Species Management Plan Action Item 53 • “The National Invasive Species Council, led by USDA, will produce an Invasive Species Compendium... The Compendium . . . will include a broad array of searchable information relevant to the biology, distribution, and management of invasive species. . . . The project will be undertaken in close cooperation with CABI.”

  12. Purpose / users of ISC ● Who will / does use it? Researchers / Lecturers and students / Resource and environment managers in agriculture, forestry, rangeland, urban land, rivers, lakes and coastal waters / Policy makers, agricultural research centres and Extension officers / Quarantine officers / Crop protection and animal health practitioners (both public and private sector) / Weed specialists. ●It is designed to help a wide variety of users to: Make soundly based decisions in invasive species management Provide a science-based, authoritative resource for quarantine measures Save time, by providing instant access to vital information Prepare lecture notes, reports, presentations and public information resources Compile maps, graphs and tables Teach/train/study Support research Advise others Provide a resource in policy making Provide data for risk assessments Support market research and marketing

Quality Control • Species experts commissioned to write datasheets • Two scientific peer reviewers • Internal editor reviews and enters data • Data is supplemented/updated as to timetable (same review process followed) Search • Metadata checks for indexing (e.g. country/taxonomic positions etc.) • Re-index Advanced search yearly • Site search (Google like) re-indexed every 3 days

Links • Plantwise – open access knowledge bank and crop clinic network • USDA & US-FWS – the ISC is to contain all outputs, including all details of “invasives causing extinction/biodiversity loss to listed and candidate species”. • Global Env.
