  2. What is Winconnect Server XP • WinConnect Server XP is software for installation onto Windows XP Pro, which transforms it into a Terminal Server and allows you to access and use your Windows-based programs (MD, BP etc) across the Internet (WAN) or from a thin client across your LAN.

  3. Demo … • Establish Internet connection • Open VPN connection • Establish Remote Desktop Connection Just click the desktop icons ->

  4. HOW TO • Server with XP pro installed • Simple point-and-click download and installation of WinConnect Server XP from http://www.thinsoftinc.com • No other special configuration required • Free 7-day trial. • US $300 for 3-user license.

  5. Across LAN • XP client – (RDP) Winconnect server XP MD will now run faster, with no advertisements

  6. Across WAN, your server end requires • a broadband Internet connection (preferably with a fixed IP address from your ISP) • a domain name linked to your IP address (you can obtain a free Domain Name, free nameservers, and free dynamic DNS service at http://www.dyndns.org ) • your Winconnect Server XP computer must be configured to accept incoming Virtual Private Networking (VPN) connections • your server must be configured with a fixed LAN IP address • your router must be configured to port forward TCP ports 1723 (PPTP) and 3389 (RDP) to the LAN IP address of your Winconnect Server XP

  7. Alternatives to Winconnect Server XP • XP server only, and use free realVNC (VNC server installed on XP server, and VNC viewer on client) - Less secure. Cannot remote print. • Windows 2000/3 server – Much more expensive. Difficult to configure (requires IT expert). Only affordable/feasible in larger practices.

  8. Bottom line • WinConnect Server XP @ US$300 for a 3-user license provides the VPN and RDP functionality at an affordable price (especially for smaller practices).
