    2. China Wave Industires Ltd, Energy and Water Authority Managing Director’s Statement on Thermal Insulation The nature of the environment, high temperature and the need to use air-conditioning results in high consumption of electricity. The thermal insulation system will reduce the consumption of electricity in air-conditioning by 40%, which will benefit customers, proprietors and the general public.

    3. Resolco International The dynamic company behind Insul-phen, a major advance in high performance rigid phenolic insulation. A firmly established organisation whose people have years of specialised experience. Innovative scientific expertise in the laboratory. A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, with proven expertise in production techniques. A total commitment to improving insulation standards worldwide.

    4. Resolco Key Personnel Mike Whelan - 30 years in Insulation Former director of Kingspan/Kooltherm Shareholder Resolco International Gert Jan de Koning - 30 years in Insulation Owner Asbipro Insulation distributors NL Major shareholder Resolco International Joint owner Resolco Insulation -UAE Bart Hinten - 25 years in Insulation Former technical Director Tarec Shareholder Resolco International Chairman ASTM Insulation committee

    5. A brief history of Phenolic foam Insul-phen is a rigid phenolic insulation. Phenolic was invented in 1907 by Leo Hendrick Baekeland, who is regarded as the father of today’s plastics industry. 100 Year anniversary of phenolic in 2007 He developed Bakelite - the world’s first synthetic plastic. In the decades that followed, Bakelite was widely used for many everyday objects

    6. Phenolic insulation has been used successfully worldwide 25 years. The standard specification in UK and Hong Kong. Used extensively in USA, UAE, Singapore.  Many prestigious projects around the world. In Commercial, civic, and government installations

    11. Critical issues to consider when specifying insulation for chilled water in Hong kong Fire & smoke safety - personnel evacuation Environmentally safe Energy efficiency/thermal performance Closed cell structure - resists moisture ingress in hot & humid climates

    12. Fire & Smoke Risks In high occupancy buildings people must have clear sight of exit signs to be able to escape. Inhalation of toxic fumes will kill more people than the fire itself Therefore, materials with low smoke and toxic gas emission should always be used.

    13. History of Fire accidents- World, 2007 hong kong Fire started from Thermal Insulation in the ceiling, during expansion work for the shopping center. Netherlands; Disco Hoogeveen-material wool

    16. Fire test

    17. Insul-phen Achieves All The Following Fire Standards Class O to UK building regulations (BS 476 parts 6&7) ASTM E84 25/50 flame spread/smoke emission up to 3 inches thick ULC of Canada S102 and S127 listed M1, France B1, Germany TNO Class 1, The Netherlands

    18. Summary Of all the insulation materials suitable for use in Hong Kong…

    19. Moisture & Water Vapour Penetration In hot and humid climates, chilled water insulation must be closed-cell to avoid moisture and water vapour penetration problems. These problems lead to loss of insulation, dripping, building fabric damage, mould growth, corrosion and costs. In German, there is 85 miljard euro claims of corrosion, by using armacel or wool In German, there is 85 miljard euro claims of corrosion, by using armacel or wool

    20. Humidity and Condensation Ambient 25 °C humidity 80% mean temp 21,5°C 23 °C 21,5 ° C 5 ° C

    21. If pipework is insulated with an open cell structure material, such as fiberglass, the material will become saturated with water. The water will then start to drip from the material. Humidity and Condensation

    22. Humidity and Condensation This results in problems . . . Growth of fungi. Dripping. Significant heat gain. Corrosion. System malfunction. Building fabric damage.

    23. Clossed cells

    24. Summary Insul-phen has the closed-cell structure that is necessary to give vital protection in Dubai’s hot and humid climate.

    25. Insulation and temperature loss Ambient 25 °C - - -

    26. Insulation and temperature loss

    27. Insalution and temperature loss Ambient 25 °C -

    28. Humidity and Condensation At very thin insulation thicknesses, emissivity has an enormous influence on surface temperature. At standard thicknesses, the surface temperature is dictated by the insulation value of the insulation material. Emissivity plays only a minor role

    29. Insulation Value / Energy Saving Insulation materials with high thermal efficiency reduce heat gain and therefore save energy costs helping to reduce Dubai’s energy consumption.

    30. Design Conditions Hong Kong

    33. Environmentally Friendly The Montreal and Kyoto Protocols state that any foam insulation material must be 100% CFC and HCFC free. Some insulation materials still contain HCFCs which can attack the ozone layer. Thermally efficient insulation materials will reduce CO2 emissions which contribute to global warming. Insul-phen phenolic insulation is produced with a zero ODP blowing agent.

    34. Summary Insul-phen outperforms all other insulation materials, offering significant savings on costs and energy consumption

    35. Summary

    36. Insul-phen is Available NOW in China With Local Support Resolco manufacture Insul-phen as rigid blocks in Oosterhout in the Netherlands. The product is exported to a network of international fabricators who cut the blocks into pipe sections and apply foil vapour barrier facing locally. Insul-phen is fabricated and available in China Standard density - 40kg/m3.Also available in 60,80 and 120 kg for load bearing i.e. pipe supports. Resolco will provide local technical/specification support, including literature. Resolco will offer specification re-write service

    37. Conclusion Insulation of chilled water in air conditioning systems is critical. Owners and engineers need to be aware of the technical issues. The insulation materials you are currently specifying are totally inadequate for local conditions. They are inefficient so more energy is being used, meaning more money is being burned . . . .
