  2. SHARING THE GOSPEL(1) • THE GREAT COMMISSION • Jesus said-“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations….. • Matthew 28 verses 18 to 20

  3. SHARING THE GOSPEL(2) • Whatever age we are, we are HIS ‘MISSIONARIES’— CALLED TO PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. • Not One Christian Is Exempt From This Calling From God.

  4. SHARING THE GOSPEL(3) • THIS IS GOD’S PLAN FOR THE WORLD THAT WE SHOULD TAKE THE GOOD NEWS OF FULL SALVATION IN AND THROUGH CHRIST OUT. • ACTUALLY IT’S HIS ONLY PLAN

  5. SHARING THE GOSPEL(4) • Jesus said-”You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” • Acts chapter 1 verse 8

  6. SHARING THE GOSPEL(5) • IN SHARING YOUR FAITH IN CHRIST; • THE MOST POWERFUL RESOURCE • THAT YOU HAVE IS • THE HOLY SPIRIT • AND THE BEST ASSET HE HAS IS • YOU • (From ‘How On Earth Can We Share Our Faith’, by Norman Critchell)

  7. Resources and Ideas to Empower • We need variety because older people aren't just one homogenous group • The term ‘older people’ is used to describe a group of people far more diverse than ever before

  8. BABY-BOOMERS-born 1946 to 64-(1) • Boomers give us a wonderful opportunity • In 1946, 1 in 3 children attended Sunday School or some form of Church

  9. ‘BOOMERS’-(2) • The Opportunity • A new life stage: • a sense of personal mortality • an awakening of ultimate questions • a sense of roots (nostalgia) • a tentative return to church • An opportunity for a recognisable form of church

  10. BABY-BOOMERS-(3) • The Opportunity • spiritual experience • “… [the] considerable potency of a latent narrative lodge in the memory that can be reawakened in a flicker, irrespective of how distant it seemed!” • Wade Clark Roof • ‘Spiritual Marketplace’

THIRD AGERS-65 to 74 years • ‘Third Agers’ are people who are active, vibrant, still involved in life and able to contribute to the community including the Church. • ‘Third Age’ is a time of fulfilment, free from mortgage, career building is over, children are independent, time is now available for the individual-some of this has changed in the present financial climate and time can be taken up with looking after an elderly parent.

  12. FOURTH-AGE • can be a time of extraordinary needs and vulnerabilities – i.e. the age of increasing dependency. • (Some split this into the ‘Active frail’(75-84) and the ‘Inactive frail’(85 and older). • Fourth agers are over 75 years old and a good number are dependent on others to help with the routine activities of daily living. • They may have limited mobility and suffer chronic or debilitating diseases.
