  1. THE FORTRESS AND THE CHURCH IN PREJMER, ROMANIA Prejmer is a village in Braşov County, Romania. It is situated 18 km northeast of the city of Braşov. The fortress was built in the 13th-15th century. Prejmer was repeatedly invaded throughout the Middle Ages by various groups, including the Mongols, Tatars, Hungarians, Ottoman Turks, and Cossacks. Prejmer is also noted for its fortified church, the Church of the Holy Cross.

  2.  Prejmer Fortress: • Its walls are 12 m high and 4 m thick. It was attacked 50 times by the Turks but never conquered.  • Inside the fortifications you'll find 272 rooms disposed on 3 levels. Each family in the village had a small room in the fortress in case the village was attacked. The whole family used to live in such a room in wartime and they kept their provisions here in peacetime. The number of each room corresponds to the number of the house in the village. • Beside all ordinary defending things you can see an unusual one. It's called "The Death's Organ". It's about a device consisting of more guns which shut all at once.

  3. PREJMER FORTIFIED CHURCH • The biggest fortified church in Southeastern Europe can be seen inside the walls of the fortress. • Its construction began in 1218 and it has the shape of a Greek cross. • Looking at the ceiling, at the windows and at all the carved and painted details you can admire a piece of Gothic style architecture. • The church's chancel is the oldest from Transylvania. It also has a little painted pulpit from the 18th century. • 1960 - 1970 was done a complete restoration of this church. • Since 1993 it is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

  4. The fortress and the church have been very well preserved. • We felt the need to explore all the corners of this old fortress and we were absolutely amazed when we walked in and discovered the dark, but not too narrow passage between the thick walls. • This place is a great tourist attraction in Transylvania.

  5. OUR VIEWS AND THOUGHTS : • “You can feel the smell of the past while walking through the small, hidden rooms and the passage between the walls of the fortress.”

  6. “The strong smell of old wood can transport you slowly back in time and make you feel the medieval atmosphere.”

  7. “ While we were visiting the fortress we felt that the ghosts of the past were walking with us .”

  8. “I felt I'd been transported in the past .”

  9. “This fortress could be considered the guardian of faith .”

  10. “The fortress has different rooms but what I liked the most was the classroom.”
