  2. The Sacrificial Role of Women • Men such as Torvald refuse to sacrifice their integrity. They shall not ask for help or do anything they dislike because of pride. • Meanwhile all women have to give up what they want and act like mindless dolls for ‘the greater good’. • Quick Summary: Nora is being blackmailed by Krogstad who works for her husband TorvaldHelmer. Nora signed her dead fathers name to get a loan of money. • Is it wrong to do something illegal to save the person you love?

  5. Nora – Act one • Nora is the protagonist of the story. • She is treated like a pet by her husband (a songbird in particular). • To make him feel like a man, she acts like a foolish, ignorant child. • She sacrifices her dignity, but why is the question?

Post-Reading questions • Talk to Nora. • Now that we’re done act one, give Nora a piece of your mind. • What do you think of her, her situation, her views, her choice of husband, etc. • Advise her what you think she should do. • Write all of this is the form of a speech or talk you would have with Nora, to her face. (I.E. Use the word YOU a lot) • Be detailed – looking for a page of writing here.

  7. Homework • Write a short summary of chapter one, pages 1- 40. • Mention all of the characters and what they were doing (including Mrs. Lynde, Dr. Rank and the children)
