  1. OFFICE OF FAMILY ASSISTANCE INFORMATION SPECIFIC TO OFA FUNDED CLASSES

  2. Program Implementation • Attendance requirements • Incentives • Fiscal year deadlines • Class schedules • Make-up sessions • Re-enrollment • Advertising materials

  3. Attendance Requirements • Couples must attend 5 out of 6 classes • While anyone can attend—only couples count toward your numbers • Instruction time must be two full hours—add additional time for dinner and data collection • Plan some type of pre-session/enrollment registration period

  4. INCENTIVES • You must work within the guidelines of your own agency • Incentives must be consistent for all participants • Incentives must be: • Reasonable • Allocable to the project • Necessary and germane to the project

  5. INCENTIVES (cont.) • Allowable Incentives* • Cash (not to exceed $100 per person) • Childcare during classes • Gas cards—to drive to class • Books about improving relationships • Food/meals at the classes • *Please check with USU if you plan to use something other than the listed incentives

  6. INCENTIVES (cont.) • You may use non-federal funds from other sources to pay for federally non-allowable incentives • Unallowable incentives (there are many but these are the most commonly asked about) • Drawings and lotteries • Entertainment • Restaurants

  7. INCENTIVES—Things to Consider • Our research shows that they are not the main motivation for coming • Helpful to remove barriers • Participants attend because of class content • Several interviewed participants did not know they were going to get a cash incentive—consequently they served no purpose

  8. Fiscal Year Deadlines • You must be done with your first class by March 31st • Important: All classes and expenditures must be completed by September 29th—not September 30th • We strongly encourage you to have your booster sessions completed by then as well • If not, you must purchase all food, supplies, incentives, etc. before Sept 29th

  9. Class Schedules • Please let me know when you have decided the dates for all of your classes—I need to coordinate site visits • I also need to know booster session dates • It is helpful to set these dates before a 6-week class begins—and let the participants know

  10. Make-Up Sessions • What are you doing for make-up sessions?? • We encourage you get enough couples in the beginning so you don’t need to do numerous make-up sessions to get your numbers • Classes are not to be taught in-home—this needs to be a group experience

  11. Re-enrollment • Priority should be given to first-time participants • Encourage re-enrollees to bring/refer another couple

  12. Advertising Materials • We really encourage you to advertise this year • Get the word out that your agency offers this type of class • We have created templates for you to use—they are already approved • If you use your own flyers—you must get them approved first—be sure to use the disclaimer • We do not need to see booster session reminders
