  2. …. the background From 25 to 28 October 2011, the FAO has organized in Rabat, Morocco, a seminar on cooperation between AIB European countries and the MENA countries (Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey): it has been invited to participate our Forest Officer Ms. Lorenza Colletti. On this occasion the FAO, in cooperation with the European Commission, has expressed a strong interest in the organization in 2012 in Italy of an international training course on the causes of forest fires, focusing especially on the methods of investigation used by the Forestry Corps where the NIAB task-force is a pioneer.

  3. Objectives of the training: • To start the implementation of the agenda 2012/2013, establishing a clear and realistic method for working with the countries to improve the capacity of new EFFIS members – Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia- and other interested European EFFIS members (Sweden, Romania, Ireland, Turkey...) in understanding and investigating on the causes of fires ; • 2. To adapt national sheets for reporting on Forest Fires causes using the new EFFIS classification adopted by the European Commission Expert Group on Forest Fires.

  4. Programme The objective of the course is to present best practices and scientific methods developed by the Italian State Forest Servicein the identification of the causes and authors of forest fires. Presented also the studies and research developed over the past ten years by CFS in full collaboration with Universities and research centers on the knowledge of forest fires in the perspective of the analysis of the criminal phenomenon. FAO/Silva Mediterranea and the Italian State Forest Service work in conjunction with EFFIS on the organization and implementation of this five - days training on the “Causes and Investigation Post Fires” This agenda is has been finalised by the Corpo Forestale dello Stato to include the several sessions focused on Post Fires Investigation Methods

(to be confirmed by CFS) - (in case of rain analysis indoor of prepared “case studies“)
