  3. Field test Dates • March 18–June 6, 2014 • Last 12 weeks of the district’s school year • Shorter window for grade 11 – possibly 5 weeks Online Only

  4. Field Test Sample • All students in a selected grade • ELA/literacy assessment OR mathematics – not both • ETS – Contractor • September, schools volunteer to participate via web registration. • Select additional schools to ensure sample is representative • Notify districts that have schools selected. • As with all field testing, participation is required.

  5. National ParticipationAt Least 22 States10% in ELA, 10% in mathematics • Grades 3 – 8: 200,000 per grade • Grades 9 & 10 for Vertical Scale: 52,000 per grade • Grade 11: 560,000 • Total: Almost 2 million students

  6. Participation in South Carolina(10% in ELA, 10% in mathematics) • Grades 3-8: 9,000 per grade • Grade 9 & 10 for Vertical Scale: 2,200 per grade • Grade 11: 24,000 • Statewide Total: 82,000

  10. Field Testing Plans • Spring 2014: pilots/tryouts of items • Fall 2014: pilots/tryouts of complete forms • Spring 2015: Census field test

  11. Field Testing Plans • Districts will be notified about selected schools soon • Selected districts or schools will register students online between October and December 2013 • Opportunity for South Carolina teachers to: • to see the assessment • to influence assessment development
