  5. Removable Partial Denture RT 453S 2004 Laboratory Project 1: Record Bases / Wax Rims

  6. Project 1: Record Bases & Wax Rim • Clinical Implications: To evaluate and record the proper VDO and CR position when the remaining dentition is not adequate enough to support the bite registration material

  7. Need the record base and wax rim for the jaw record. Interocclusal Record Adequate tooth number vs. Inadequate tooth number to support the bite registration materials

  8. Model #1 Model #3*

  9. Use your eyes to estimate the correct path of insertion. Then use small amount of wax to block out the undercut.

  10. Minimum Wax Block Out Where? Teeth: marginal gingiva, proximal surfaces, and embrasures Soft tissue: gross undercut Why? To obtain a stable and retentive record base and yet avoid the damage on the cast

  11. Apply the separatingmedium Wait for the first coat air dry, then apply the second coat.

  12. Lightly vaseline your fingers. Mold the acrylic resin into the arch shape wafer. Mix acrylic resin in a paper cup to a thick creamy consistency Adapt the acrylic resin wafer onto the cast with even pressure. 2-3 mm thickness is desired. Press the excess against the edge of the cast to trim it off.

  13. Round, smooth, and polish the record base Before adding the wax rim, roughen the acrylic surface for mechanical retention

  14. Record base extension: 2-3 mm short of vestibule

  15. Record base extension: 2-3 mm short of vestibule Record base extension next to the teeth: Avoid the extend toward to the tooth Re

  16. Record base: 2-3 mm thick Do not overextend

  17. Extend the record base onto the proximal, palatal/lingual surfaces of the teeth to enhance the retention, stability, and support of the record base

  18. Keep the space for the bite registration material

  19. Bite registration materials: ZOE bite registration paste Wax Compound Silicone

  20. Selectively adding the wire clasps can improve the retention & stability of the record base for accurate jaw record

  21. Record base & wax rim • Stable • Good support • Rigid • Comfort Accurate interocclusal record

  22. Cast #2 Cast #3** Mount the #3 mandibular cast at the best contact position by next Friday
