  2. What’s in the Geo collection ? • Files in MapInfo or Arc/Info format. • Digital Boundary, line and/or point files. • Reference Guides & Documentation. • Some tools = GeoSuite, GeoFormat.

  3. MapInfo or Arc/Info ? ArcView Arc/Info Need to import or Map Info… Ready to use or other software… if compatible with MI or A/I

  4. What’s a GIS ? • Geographic Information System • Mapping software integrated to a database • Will perform geospatial operation in or between many layers of information. • Offers possibility to integrate external data • Vector based or Raster based

  8. Polygons What’s in a Boundary file ? Examples of Polygonal features Census Areas, City Limits, City blocks, Lakes, Islands, Pop Ecumen, Neighbourhoods, User defined zone of interests, Buffer Zone. ?

  9. What’s in a Street Network file Examples of Linear features Roads & Hyways, Rail Roads Rivers, Streams, Pipelines, Power Lines, ?

  10. What’s in a point file • Examples of point features • Dwellings, schools • Navigation buoys, • Oil wells, Radio Towers • Smoke stacks Areas can also be represented by points PCCF, Census Area rep. point

  12. GeoSuite • The GeoSuite tool provides linkage between the different levels of Census geography. • List of Census Areas within larger Census areas. • Population counts for selected areas.
