  2. - Rocks This slide show will describe some major concepts and you will hear some “rock” songs…. Hope you enjoy They come from the cities and they come from the small towns… R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A HaHa actually, Rocks are found all over the world.

  3. The Earth is filled with Rocks… Sedimentary Rocks Igneous Rocks Metamorphic Rocks The Earth will ROCK YOU!!!!!!!!

  4. Igneous Rocks Now, I don’t know Now, I don’t know Now, I don’t know I don’t know I don’t know I don’t know I don’t know where I’m gonna go when the volcano blow I don’t know where I’m gonna go when the volcano blow I don’t know where I’m gonna go when the volcano blow But, you better get away……….. FAR AWAY I mean very far away Really, some people are so dumb, they stay and watch….these people die.

  5. Extrusive Igneous Rocks are formed on the surface of the Earth and are called…Volcanic Igneous Rocks formed inside the Earth are called Intrusive. Granite is the most common Intrusive Igneous Rock and forms the Continents Volcanoes release built up pressure from deep within the Hot molten Earth And The inside of the Earth is VERY HOT!!!!! Volcanoes are most commonly found at tectonic boundaries. We will learn more about those in the next unit The slow extrusion of igneous rocks at the bottom of the ocean basins has formed the oceanic crust. This extrusive igneous rock is Basalt.

  6. Sedimentary Rocks SedimentaryRocks form from the compaction and cementation of sediment Clastic rocks form from fragments of rock…Conglomerate, Sandstone and Shale Crystalline sedimentary rocks from from evaporation ofwater…Rock Salt and Rock Gypsum Bioclastic rocks are formed from cementing of organic material…fossil limestone and coal Sedimentary rocks are important to geologists because they can indicate “geologic time” very well, especially if they contain fossils

  7. Sediment is deposited on the shoreline Sediment is buried Sediment is compacted due to the weight of overlying sediment Sediment is cemented and forms a Sedimentary rock and thus... Sedimentary rock layersBUILDup.

  8. Sedimentary Rocks skcoR yratnemideS Time is forever entombed in a sedimentary rock. Sedimentary Rocks are formed in “near horizontal” layers. Oldest layers at the bottom, younger layers form above. Fossils can be dated and help to give geologists an understanding of the Earth.

  9. Metamorphic Rocks From the Greek for “change form” Metamorphic rocks form from preexisting rocks that “change” due to heat and pressure. PRESSURE PRESSURE Two major kinds are Foliated and Non-foliated Foliated metamorphic rocks show linear alignments of minerals (sometimes even showing cleavage planes) Examples are Gneiss, Schist, and Slate Non-foliated metamorphic rocks show crystallized minerals but not in linear planes Examples are Marble and Quartzite These Rocks formed UNDER PRESSURE!!!!!!!!! These Metamorphic Rocks form a type of Mountain called Folded Mountains

  10. Credits Written by Mr. Merkert Directed by Mr. Merkert Produced by Mr. Merkert Special Effects by Mr. Merkert Custom Animation by Mr. Merkert Executive Producer Mr. Merkert Special Thanks to Mr. Seligman Brought to you in AmazingTechnicolor Sedimentary rocks thinly cover the surface, The Earth is covered in Rocks… Igneous rocks are the foundations of the continents and metamorphic rocks are the core of most mountain chains. This slide show has been brought to you courtesy of Mr. Merkert and his vast library of cool and unique “Rock” songs. I hope you have learned something and enjoyed the show. The End
