  1. Galgotia University Students File PIL for Voting Rights in Jail In a revolutionary attempt, 3 law students from Galgotia University’s School of Law, have filed a PIL in Delhi High Court to seek voting rights for prisoners across India. Galgotia University is considered one of the top-ranking private universities in the NCR region of India. With a young and dynamic CEO Mr.Dhruv Galgotia, the university is reaching new heights considering the international tie-ups and student exchange programs that have been initiated. Equality for All The Indian constitution prescribes equality for all citizens of the nation. The PIL filed by Galgotia University students aims at highlighting this basic right of all citizens, including prisoners. Almost 4 lakh people in the country are behind bars and they are unable to vote during an election because of the current constitutional framework. Challenging this very blanket ban, the 3 law students are asking for equality for prisoners when it comes to national political decision- making. 2019 Elections Considered as the most expensive elections of the world, 2019 Lok Sabha elections will see almost 9 million registered voters go to vote. This will, however, not include people who are in jail. The constitution does not revoke the right of citizenship of people in jail, so the PIL is requesting a revisit to this law to allow voting rights for prisoners. The idea is, if criminals and convicts can contest in elections, then they should also be able to vote. Objective In the first hearing, the bench of judges asked these students about their motive in filing this PIL. They suggested that this is not politically-driven but rather challenges the constitution because as per the current laws it is unconstitutional to take away the basic and fundamental rights of any citizen of the nation. Visionaries Suneel Galgotia and Padmini Galgotia along with CEO Dhruv Galgotia are taking the university to new heights. With a constant focus on innovative learning techniques, this university is gaining popularity with every passing day.
