  1. AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC ACTIVITY

  2. Aerobic fitness is the ability to exercise or compete for a long time without getting breathless.

  3. It has broadened out into STEP AEROBICS and AQUA AEROBICS.

  4. There are many other ways to improve AEROBIC FITNESS: • Continuous training • Interval training • Fartlek training • Circuit training

  5. ANAEROBIC FITNESS is the ability to work at a high intensity for a short period of time. Anaerobic exercise can only last for about 40 secs, about the time it takes a world class 400m runner to complete the race. The repayment comes in the form of gasping breaths at the end of activity. This is to enable as much oxygen as possible to get back into the respiratory system and to eliminate as much of the waste product as possible. This is known as OXYGEN DEBT.

  6. Equipment • There are 2 main reasons why the wearing of proper clothing, footwear or equipment is important: • To help your performance • To be safe

  7. Equipment (performance) • Improvements in equipment have helped Beginners and World Champions. For example; • Increased resistance/grip Goalkeepers gloves, Running shoes • Reduced resistance/grip Swimmers wear caps or thin swimsuits or adding wax to skis to make them go faster • Equipment Design (weight) Golf and Tennis have seen their equipment become much lighter but just as powerful through the use of graphite • In Swimming how can we use the following pieces of equipment to develop performance?

  8. Equipment (performance) • Changes in equipment can also be made so that beginners and young people can develop their skills; • Smaller rackets in Badminton or Tennis • Larger floats in Swimming

  9. Equipment (safety) • Often certain equipment is used to ensure the safety of performers • Compulsory shin guards in Football or mouth guards in Rugby • Recommended headwear in Rugby or goggles in Swimming • Some people need very special equipment to be safe (Hockey Goalkeeper)
