STEP ONE Find an empty shoebox. The shoebox should ideally be medium size, as shown. IMPORTANT : Wrap the lid and the box SEPERATELY in wrapping paper. If you seal the box they will have to rip it all off to check what you’ve put inside !.

  1. STEP ONEFind an empty shoebox The shoebox should ideally be medium size, as shown. IMPORTANT: Wrap the lid and the box SEPERATELY in wrapping paper. If you seal the box they will have to rip it all off to check what you’ve put inside! SUGGESTION: WORK IN GROUPS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO DO A BOX ON YOUR OWN!

  2. STEP 2Decide if your gift is for a boy or girl • Tick the appropriate age box on the sticker provided. Then remove and stick on the top right of the lid. Make sure the label is secure • Collect your label from assembly or your form tutor if you don’t manage to get one

  3. STEP 3Fill your box with gifts You DON’T have to spend lots of money on this, we are NOT asking you to spend money you can’t afford! BECAUSE OF NEW REGULATIONS, ALL GIFTS ARE ‘SUPPOSED’ TO BE NEW but there are lots of Pound Shops about and Charity shops have new items for sale. Also if you have items which are almost new or that you’ve never used or look new, put it in anyway and they can decide 

STEP 3Fill your box with gifts Some Suggestions • Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument. • For boys; trucks and cars • For girls; dolls, clip on earrings, etc. • IMPORTANT: NO WAR RELATED ITEMS e.g. toy soldiers, plastic weapons etc. TOYS!

  5. STEP 3Fill your box with gifts EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, colouring books, notepads, picture or puzzle books, chalk, pencil case, stickers, paper etc.

  6. STEP 3Fill your box with gifts Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc. Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces etc. Hygiene items Other items

  7. NO THANKS! Please do NOT include any of these items: NO FOOD especially chocolate Only one exception, non-chocolate sweets ARE allowedNO MEDICINE or vitamins of any kindNO WAR RELATED ITEMS Toy guns, soldiers or knives of any kindNO CLOTHING other than previously listed above

Please do NOT include any of these items: No fragile items such as glass containers, mirrors No liquids including blow bubbles, shampoo, bubble bath, toiletry sets or aerosols No dangerous items such as sharp objects, scissors or razors No novels Nothing of a political nature No hand-knitted stuffed toys without a CE mark

ONLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT…… Make your donation • If you don’t want to do a shoebox but would still like to donate something, please complete the donation envelope from the OCC leaflet and enclose a cash or cheque donation of around £2.50 per shoebox. Hand this to your tutor. You don’t have to do this

  10. IMPORTANT! READING THE SMALL PRINT SAVES TIME AND PROTECTS LIVES DO NOT SEND any items in a shoebox (intended for a younger child), which might be swallowed or mistaken for sweets! IMPORTANT* PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS....

  11. What to do next • Hand your box in to your tutor who will store the shoeboxes in the house staff areas • WHICH HOUSE WILL BE THE ONE THAT COLLECTS THE MOST SHOEBOXES? • Come On Now – you know you can ……….. WIN!
