IB Al-FPC manufacturing • 4 new Al-FPC prototypes delivered (produced from coating tests done at IREIS/HEF using still 50 mm Apical-NP polyimide): validated Al coating and chemical etching • Launched production of Al-FPC using final polyimide thickness (75 mm), layout and material (Upilex-S75 from UBI) • Verify shrinking properties of Upilex-S75, optimize thermal stabilisation procedure • Submit foils to the three companies for Al coating (final selection): • LERMPS (baseline reference supplier) • FHR (best resistivity of Al layer) • HEF/ IREIS (large machines with simultaneous two faces coating) WP6 status report - A.   7. Study of holes position accuracy • After thermal stabilisation (13 h 250 oC) holes have been drilled by laser and then measured at the CERN metrology lab • A new treatment (outgassing for 12 h @ 180 oC + polishing) has been performed on the various foils in preparation for the Al coating, holes position has been measured again before shipment to check stabilisation WP6 status report - A. Metrology results • The difference wrt to the nominal distance could be explained by T and relative humidity: drilling performed with no control or measurement of T and R.H., measurements done at controlled T and measured R.H • Difference in R.H. between the two measurements (~0.05% vs ~0.064 %) accounts only 0.04 mm of the observed 0.09 mm difference → thermal stabilisation not yet optimal or larger hygroscopic expansion? • Spread seems larger than the tolerance provided by the laser drilling company (± 15 µm) Upilex-S75 Coeff. of therm. expansion: 20 ppm/oK → ~ 6 mm /oK over 30 cm WP6 status report - A. Outlook • Perform further measurements on same samples after Al coating and chemical etching • Perform new tests on Upilex samples to verify thermal stabilisation and effect of T and R.H. • Talk to laser drilling company to verify position tolerance and possibility to monitor T and R.H. • Remark: Cu laminated polyimide is more stable but can move a lot after etching → use Upilex + study stability also for OB?
