KEY PROBLEM High obesity rates within Northern Health Obesity is recognised as a pervasive issue amongst the family of the pregnant woman Obesity in the migrant population Services aimed only at antenatal and intrapartum management Attention to this issue prenatally and postnatally to enable women to sustain lifestyle change for themselves and their family

AIM OF THIS INNOVATION Educating women on the medical impact of obesity in pregnancy on herself and the fetus Education on the long term effects of obesity Provision of multidisciplinary team to help women and families address the problem of obesity Identify women prenatally through LMO’s Address the obesity problem prior to, during and after pregnancy to enable sustainable change

  4. KEY CHANGES TO BE IMPLEMENTED Prenatal clinic – ‘Get Fit for Pregnancy’ Early identification and channeling into obesity specific multidisciplinary antenatal clinics Education session – ‘Keep fit in pregnancy’ Input from dietician and physiotherapy Culture specific dietary information and educational material. Post partum information
