The place has attracted tea planters since the 19th century. Situated on the lap of the Dhauladhar Mountains, Palampur is bestowed with mesmerizing beauty. It has also been acclaimed on an international scale. You are welcome to stay at Rakkh, our resort in Palampur while exploring the rest of Palampur over the weekend. Things to Do In Palampur: Tea Garden: Palampur is also known as the tea capital of North India due to its large-scale tea plantations. Most of the gardens here are more than a century old and the plantation began in the early 19th century. Talking a walk in the large tea estates will make you want to stay here forever, away from the hustle-bustle of the city. Most tea gardens in Palampur have retail outlets within their plantation that sell various forms of tea, manufactured from leaves grown in their gardens. In addition to selling, they also offer you an option to taste their various types of tea. It acts as a promotion as once you taste and feel the aroma of the fresh tea, you cannot resist buying a few packets from the shops. Saurabh Van Vihar: Dedicated to brave soldier Saurabh Kalia who was a martyr in the Kargil War, Saurabh Van Vihar is a nature park spread across 13 km situated on the banks of the snow-fed river Neugel Khad in Kwat Village. A perfect place for recreation, Saurabh Van Vihar is very close to Rakkh, our resort in Palampur. Jakhni Mata Temple: Jakhni Mata, a modest temple on a mountaintop with quiet settings and amazing views of the valley, is reached by a delightful mountain drive. The pleasant smell of pines and the calming sound of the wind cutting through the leaves of these trees will greet you. Savor Momos at City Center: While walking down the street from the tea garden near the city center, you can find a stretch of road lined with small eating outlets serving street food. While they all serve momos – specifically mutton momos filled with mountain goat meat is the highlight. Do visit them, if you are a ‘momo fan’. Tashi Jong Monastery: Tashi Jong Monastery is a vibrant monastery surrounded by beautiful snow- capped mountains, designed by Khamtrul Rinpoche, the entire place is embellished with woodcarving, gilding, and painting. Several manifestations of Buddha have also been placed in the monastery including the Buddha Shakyamuni. Apart from being a monastery, it is a lovely craft emporium, where you can find Tibetian artifacts. Baijnath Temple: This holy Shiva temple is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century. In the temple, Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Vaidyanath. The water of the temple is also popular amongst devotees as it is believed to have medicinal properties. After the renovation in the 20th century by Raja Sanasar Chand, lush green gardens have been set up around the temple complex which attracts the temple even more. Sobha Singh Art Gallery: Sobha Singh is a veteran painter. His masterpiece of Guru Nanak (with his one hand raised to shower blessings) has brought him fame. The art gallery displays some of the finest work of Sobha Singh, which includes portraits of the famous Punjabi couples Sohni-Mahinval and Hir-Ranjha. Sobha Singh Art Gallery is an important art center in Palampur and holds great value in Punjab’s heritage Dorzong Monastic Institute: Located on the foot of Dhauladhar Mountain Range, Dorzong Monastic Institute (DMI) is a place for studying and practicing Buddhism. Buddhist Festivals, Prayers, and Ceremonies are organized and medical aid is provided to the needy. The institute is also recognized as the yellow roof monastery. Stay at Rakkh, our resort in Palampur: Rakkh Resort in Palampur is the plenary escape from the ordinary with its profusion of active, immersive, and transformative experiences for loved ones to bond over.
