  1. WG FBA future activitiesDr.Uroš Gabrijel (ELES)IG Meeting, Vienna, 30 January 2008

  2. Presentation outline • State of the Concept • Short term to-do list • Mid term to-do list

  3. State of the Concept (1) • HLM decisions • MF chosen over BC. • Centralized preparation of CGM and calculation (condition) • Existing German-Austrian market structure taken into account • Prolongation of the co-operation with consultants • Draft Concept of technical parameters calculation for FBCA • Key components • Flow-Based methodology (MF) - seems perfect in theory. • Technical parameters (CGM, BFRM, FRM, PTDF…) – crucial for efficiency/feasibility

  4. State of the Concept (2) • FBCA is a complex process • Aiming to mimic real power system behaviour -> power flows • Stretched across multiple interdependent time frames. • Additional risks are introduced if not running in closed environment – Kirchoff’s laws are not in line with Regional framework – assumptions needed • Focus on the Concept(HLM decision) • Feasibility and efficiency test of the Concept • Reliability margins and interregional influences evaluation • Curtailment principle to be developed and analyzed

  5. Short term to-do list (1) • Feasibility and efficiency test of the Concept * • FBCA using MF method • New tools required - prototype developed by consultant • Two phases (preparatory, main) • All time frames (Y, M, D), est. 56 calculations • Many open questions regarding technical parameters need to be addressed - Concept improvements • Workshop, meetings, concluding the work by end of May 2008 * Consultant support

  6. Short term to-do list (2) • Reliability margins and interregional influences evaluation * • RM are indispensable – need thorough quantification • Probabilistic approach to external flows assessment • Influences of historical exchanges evaluated with PTDFs • Use of historical exchanges with specific load-flow models • Approach to inter-regional RM harmonization • Technical parameters determination • Discussions, additional meeting, concluding the work by end of June 2008 • Curtailment principle need to be developed and analyzed * - (scope in preparation) * Consultant support

  7. Mid term to-do list • External Dry-run with traders * • Educational purposes – introducing FBCA nature • Earliest possible time-frame - mid June 2008 • Updating the Concept * • Formalisation of procedures • Updating process chains • Real-time congestion reliving principles need to be developed and analyzed * * Envisaged Consultant support

  8. Thank you for your attention!
