  6. Handwriting • Second grade teaches Modern Manuscript • We will teach lowercase cursive writing in the 5th six weeks. • Students graded on: • Pencil grip • Paper positioning • Letter formation • Size • Spacing

Technology • Each room is equipped with three IBM computers • The computer lab is also equipped with IBM computers for students to use through out the year. • Our class is scheduled to go every week for 45 minutes. • We will learn: • Basic word processing skills • Keyboarding • SmartBoard Lessons • Edmodo, Power Point, Kidspiration

Grading and Late Work • Daily Work: • Each grade is counted once • Students will be held accountable for skills taught. 1 point will be taken off for each missing end mark and capital letter when required to write in complete sentences • Tests: • Each grade will be doubled • Homework: • Counts as 10% of the final grade • Late Work • Students will be given opportunities to complete work during the school within the week it was assigned. • 10 points will be deducted each day late • After 3 days, detention or a 0 will be given

  14. Behavior Plan • Each 2nd grader will have an expectation card:

Behavior Plan: • 0-5 checks in the same category = Satisfactory (S) on the report card • 6-8 checks in the same category = Needs Improvement (N) on the report card • 9+ checks in the same category = Unsatisfactory (U) on the report card • 8+ or more scattered checks = (N) in self discipline WORK HABITSCITIZENSHIP 1. Listens well. 5. Complies with requests. 2. Demonstrates organizational skills. 6. Controls talking. 3. Completes class work. 7. Disciplines self. 4. Completes homework. 8. Interacts appropriately. TT=Think Time

  16. Students will be bring their expectation card home every Wednesday. Please sign and return on Thursday. Look at the dates on where to sign.

Homework Schedule • Monday: Spelling • Tuesday: Reading • Wednesday: Math, Communication folder • Thursday: Study for Spelling test and Fast Facts • Read • It is your child’s responsibility for recording the assignment in the planner every morning, and taking the planner home EVERY NIGHT for parent signature.

  18. Extras: • Recess:11:15 – 11:30 • Specials: P. E. is every other day. Please remember tennis shoes. Art and Music will rotate. • Please see the handbook for lunch schedules • Library: Check out every week • Library class every other week. • Parents MUST go through the office to pick up their child.

  19. Extras: • No Birthday invitations may be handed out at school. • Parents may bring birthday treats but they will be eaten outside at recess. • 2 celebration parties a year • Class field trip in the Spring.

  20. Extras: • Meal Pay Plus: • You may prepay online at katyisd.org click on Meal Pay Plus. You can also check your child’s spending. If you send cash please have it in an envelope with your child’s name on it.
