Genre. What type??. Let’s Rewind and Take a Second Look. Think Music…. Just as there are many different types, categories, or “genres” of music…. There are different types, or genres of books. All categories of books or stories can be called either Fiction or Non-Fiction.

  4. There are different types, or genres of books All categories of books or stories can be called either Fiction or Non-Fiction

  5. Fiction or Non-Fiction? Fiction • a made up story • can tell about things that could happen • is read for fun • characters may be like real people or imaginary Non-Fiction • has facts that can be checked and proven • the author is an expert on this information • it IS TRUE!

Fiction • Realistic Fiction • could happen, modern times • Historical Fiction • set in important historical period, characters could be real or unreal • Folklore • myths, fables, legends • Fantasy/Fairy Tales • magic, fairy, trolls, dragons • Science Fiction • time travel, set in future • Drama • script, plays, performed • Poetry • form, rhyme, free verse

  7. Non-Fiction • Biography • life story of a real person • Auto-biography • life story of the person who writes the book • Informational • factual, encyclopedia, dictionary, textbook
